Full blurb

In the City of London, Josh works tirelessly to provide financial security for his younger sister, following the tragic deaths of his parents. He longs for a connection with his birth father who doesn’t want Josh to wreck his perfect life. Mature beyond his years, Josh craves the love and stability of an older man to anchor him.

Daniel, a wildly successful lawyer, works hard and plays even harder. His heart is closed to love after the betrayal of his ex-husband, until he meets Josh, twenty years his junior, and the executive assistant of one of his clients. Their chemistry ignites during a passionate weekend, initially driven by lust, awakening feelings Daniel never thought he’d experience again.

But fate has a cruel twist in store: Daniel’s best friend is also Josh’s birth father, making their love utterly forbidden. With a tempting offer on the table from his father to walk away, will Josh choose financial security or take a chance on love? And can Daniel convince Josh that the only choice he needs to make is to follow his heart?

Daniel parked at one of his favourite restaurants, in a gorgeous village called Heartwood. It was the epitome of small town charm. They did the best traditional Sunday lunch in the country in Daniel’s view. Getting a table had been a challenge, but he’d been here enough times over the years that the owners – who were a gay couple and had become his friends – had said they could squeeze him in. The “guest he wanted to impress” probably intrigued them. Why had he said that on the phone? He wasn’t sure, but it had gotten him the table, so he couldn’t complain.

“Daniel,” said Gerard, opening his arms and giving him one of his bear hugs. “And who is this handsome young man?” he said, looking at Josh with a glint in his eyes.

“This is Josh.”

“Josh or Joshua?” asked Gerard, extending his hand.

“Josh. Definitely Josh,” he said, rather forcefully, shaking hands.

“Well, definitely Josh. What meat can I tempt you with today?”

Daniel let out a growl without realising. Josh looked at both of them and cracked up laughing.

“Is my husband being inappropriate again?” asked Kevin, walking over to them wearing his chef whites.

The two men couldn’t be more different, but they were the perfect couple. Daniel could only hope to have something like that one day. Okay, that was new. He usually thought “great for them, but not for me,” and now he was thinking differently. Kevin introduced himself to Josh, and they were seated at their table, tucked away in the corner. The location seemed cosy and private, but it was also in perfect view of where Gerard typically positioned himself when he wasn’t mingling with the guests. The sneaky fucker.

On a Sunday, the place only did roast dinner, five different ways. There was chicken, beef, lamb, pork, and a nut roast. They didn’t need to offer anything else. Kevin was a master in the kitchen, and Gerard could charm anyone, so they were the perfect combination for a thriving business.

Josh was looking at the menu with his brow furrowed. He looked around at some of the other patrons and what was on their plate, and Daniel wondered if Josh needed him to choose.

“Is there anything you don’t like?”

“Nut roast.”

Daniel laughed. “Nobody eats that unless they have no other options. Anything else?”

“No, I like it all.”

“Great, leave it to me.”

He motioned for Gerard to come over.

“What will it be, gents?”

“Can you do the beef and lamb for me, with the chicken and pork for Josh? We’ll share them.”

“No problem. You’re probably looking at a thirty-minute wait.”

“We’re in no hurry. I’ll just have a diet coke.”

“Same,” said Josh.

“I’ll send your drinks over,” he said, leaving them to it.

“I didn’t know you were going to order all the meats. I would have chosen one.”

“Now you don’t have to,” he smiled. “It’ll be fine. I know you can handle a lot of meat in your mouth.”

Josh’s eyes widened, which was followed by laughter and a coughing fit. Daniel struggled to keep a straight face and joined him in laughing. He noticed Gerard looking at him. He pointed at Josh and gave a thumbs up with a lascivious grin . . . the old tart. Daniel couldn’t help but preen under his friend’s approval.
