F**ck, Marry, Kill Me, Daddy is a high-heat, over-the-top, absolutely UNHINGED, dual-POV, dark romcom that is equal parts insta-love and insta-lust. While one character is married, their marriage is open, and there’s no cheating between them.
REVIEW:
Oh, my word, I don’t even know where to start with this one. Holy unexpected listens, Batman. I will admit this is probably not a book I would normally listen to. But I have to say this story was brilliant. Lance Lansdale is a gem. I had never experienced any of his books before but let me say this story made me giggle snort, cry, and beat the steering wheel of my car, since that is where I listen to a majority of my audio books.
The world building is top notch. Lance has created a world where assassin and prey are uniquely able to fall in love. The character development is this book is brilliant. Scotty is the gay son of a presidential candidate, who has contracted to have him killed. Enter Brody, our extremely experienced assassin. He’s usually very efficient with his kills, but this time he can’t quite seem to pull the trigger. As he stalks Scotty the crazy ensues. I mean these two are truly crazy and just perfect for each other. All the characters, main and side, are very well fleshed out and seriously in need of some therapy time, lol. This book is a completely rickety roller coaster ride, with all the dips, turns, and cliff dropping moments that can go thoroughly off the rails. This story has all the elements of a great story – dark humor, some unhinged sexy times and a genius plot.
KEVIN EARLYWINE is the perfect choice as the performer of this masterfully crafted story. Kevin is absolutely brilliant in his performance, he takes what Lance has put down on paper and not only embraces this crazy story but imbues it with all of the dementedness this story deserves. It’s as if Kevin has embodied the crazy that is Scotty and Brody. From the dark themes, the comedic instalove, to the sexy times, the brilliance of his performance shines through. It’s the mark of a great narrator when they can make you laugh hysterically one moment and then become a complete sobbing mess the next. Kevin brings another nuanced performance to this story, and I can’t wait to listen to more of his performances. There are rare moments when the narrator and author come together in the perfect synergy, and it feels like a match made in heaven. Lance and Kevin are one of those pairings, in my humble opinion.
I heartily recommend this ingenious take on a dark romcom, instalove story. Don’t wait, run to your favorite audio purchasing site and grab this insanely crafted story. You and your ears will not regret it.
