He may be a King, but I’ll never kneel.

Colton
If asked to list all the folks in Darling, Montana I can’t stand, I’d have a single name.

Noah King.

He’s the second-best farrier in town (me being the first). A royal pain in my behind. And an all-around smug pest I wouldn’t mind knocking down a peg or two.

It’s no surprise after so many years, our animosity has come to a head. I just never in my wildest, hate-fueled fantasies expected Noah’s attack to involve his lips on mine.

It was a mistake, no question. But apparently I still have some things to figure out about myself.

One thing I do know? Noah King and I have been bitter rivals from the start. And nothing, not even the fire he lights under my skin, makes a lick of difference in the end.

Surrendering to my enemy isn’t an option.

Brim Over Boot is a small town, enemies-to-lovers romance between rival farriers, with a double bi-awakening, tension and banter galore, scorching encounters, a slow fall from hate to love, and one very HEA. It’s book 2 in The Darling Brothers series but can be read as a standalone.

REVIEW:

Noah King and Colton Darling have been rivals for years.  They are the local farriers and there has always been a work competition.  And they really seem to hate each other.  Their scowling is epic.  Their relationship frosty at best.  It seems like it’s always been that way.  Why?  Well Colton can’t just say exactly.  Noah knows why.  But he’s not saying.

Finally one night when they are both at the same bar, Colt follows Noah out.  He’s picking and picking and Noah finally shuts him up the only way he can think of  – by aggressively kissing him.  And then driving off.  Say what???

Both men think they are straight, but clearly there is something to this.  The next time they are in the same place, the end up together again after Colt chases off the man Noah was dancing with.  Huh?  Was he really jealous?  But this is his sworn enemy?  Isn’t he?

Colton shows up at Noah’s bard/workshop though.  And it’s like they can’t stay away from each other.  Colt likes the way Noah manhandles him.  Makes him beg.  They are both confused about what this means.  Oh and those hickeys on Colt’s neck are leading to a lot of questions from his family 😉

As the summer goes on, they continue their competition.  There is a shoein.  There is a scavenger hunt.  And there are lots more times of Colt and Noah being together.  But what is this?  They are enemies.  Aren’t they?

OMG!  I loved this story!  These two had such a hard time figuring out what was right in front of them.  I liked that we didn’t know what had set up the rivalry and hard feeling until very late in the story.  Noah’s life was so different from Colt’s.  Colt had a hard time getting out of his own head.  Maybe it’s a middle child syndrome or something.  His dad certainly had some ideas on the subject 😉  I loved Noah’s uncle Walt.  What a supportive man!  The rest of the Darlings are really supporting characters here, but most of the story is really Noah and Colt trying to figure out how to go from enemies to lovers and not mess it up.  They are circling each other like prize fighters a lot of the time. Until they come together with real heat.  Their hate sex just pushed them together more.  I loved the tension in their relationship and how Noah had to keep settling Colt – truly like a skittish horse.  But in the end, Colt figures out a way to actually talk to Noah and make him understand what he’s had such a hard time saying 🙂  I can’t wait for the next book.  Wonderful setting, characters and a great HEA.  Highly recommended.
