BLURB:
When a naked man with amnesia shows up at my door, I have the usual theories: alien, time-traveling assassin, lost tourist who partied too hard the night before.
This is New Orleans, so my money is on the last one.
What doesn’t make the list? Dinosaur shifter.
Something is hunting us so no time to dwell on how and why. Killian—not his real name, but Sexy Beast is a little too on the nose—is willing to take on the world for me. Which is a nice change since I’m usually to blame for everything. Just ask my mother or the New Orleans Police Department.
As we run for our lives and investigate a murder somehow connected to me, Killian’s memory returns. Turns out, time traveling assassin isn’t that far off.
Now I’m hiding out with a gorgeous beast of a man who may or may not want to kill me. And there’s only one bed.
Is this my worst nightmare or a fantasy come true?
The Bone Doctor is the first book in my dino-shifter trilogy, The Dino Uprising. It features a snarky hero, a protective anti-hero, a swashbuckling four-foot pirate, and a hidden world where dinosaurs still exist.
REVIEW:
I love getting to experience new to me authors. I mean I do know DK, she’s great. But up until this series, I’d never read any of her books. Let me tell you this series is a fantastic introduction to her writing. I mean what more could you ask for than dinosaur shifters.
I love how this story is an amalgamation of shifters and an urban setting. The worldbuilding is so so good in this story. I was just sucked into this story and got to envision what a modern-day dinosaur would see and feel waking up and not knowing who, what, or where you are. DK created a world from scratch that incorporated all the best of reality and fantasy.
Brilliant character development was not limited to the main characters. The side characters were also very detailed and deep, that I have favorites and not so favorite characters that I would like to punch. LOL. Killian and Beau are to lovable for words. And Walter, the sword wielding pirate (spoiler alert, he’s a Pentaceratops dinosaur shifter). Her characters are brilliantly crafted and completely believable.
Her prose is so engaging. I didn’t want to put this book down. The range of emotion DK’s words engender is wonderful. This story not only has sexy times, but grabs you by the short hairs, sucks you in and then you get to experience not only the highs but the lows as well. Multi-dimensional on all levels from finding true love, to the action scenes.
“Killian!” Beau is here. Beside me. He touches my face. My arms. My chest. Until he finds the injury.
“I’m fine.”
“Damn right you are. But it’s bruised. So no marathons.”
Beau wraps his arms around me and kisses me. I feel like weeping. A hole was there before. Had I even realized how lonely I’ve been?
There’s much of my life that I don’t remember, but having Beau care about me gives me something that feels like it’s been missing. I cling to him, absorbing his affection like the dry earth when it rains. I deepen the kiss.
I highly recommend this story. So much so you should run to your favorite eBook purchasing site and snatch this one up. This is a three-book series, so please stay tuned for the next installment. I know I can’t wait to read it.
