Dominic Lowing knows stress. He lost his father to a stress-fuelled heart attack, and his own fast-paced career as a lawyer has done little to help. But he knows which coping mechanisms work for him: diet and exercise, of course. And a very active particular sex life.
Fitch Lamont has been working his corner on Wylde Street for two years. Not exactly the direction he saw his life going, but he’s a glass-half-full kind of guy. He has a roof over his head, enough food to eat—sometimes—and two best friends that make it all worthwhile.
When Dominic encounters a rent boy who ticks all his boxes, he decides to make it a regular encounter. But then their arrangement, their personal lives—and feelings—collide in unexpected ways.
Fitch found more than a client in Dominic; he found safe arms and a kind heart. And maybe, if he could let his guard down long enough, he might realise he found his future too.
REVIEW:
Note: This story takes place in the same timeline as the first book, so there is quite a bit of overlap in the stories. As such, there are major spoilers for that story here.
Fitch is a young very boyish twink who is also a rent-boy. He and his mates Kylan and Benji stick together. They have a flat together and they check in regularly with each other. They work the same area and make sure they are staying as safe as they can given their profession. Fitch has a customer that he’s enjoyed in the past and he’d like to again 🙂 This guy is older, bigger and clearly has money. But what Fitch likes is their dynamic. Fitch can be a bratty boy and this guy is a great daddy.
Dom is a prosecutor. His job is stressful and he likes to blow off steam with younger guys. It’s always been his preference. And if they want to call him Daddy? Well he’s not exactly opposed to it. One of the Wylde Street boys is somebody Dom has been with before and he finds the guy a handful, but fun. So when he decides he might like to have him for the whole night?? Well Fitch, the young guy, agrees. That’s when things get good.
But when Dom gets out of the shower the next morning even after discussing breakfast, the guy is gone 🙁 Hmmm. Dom’s not sure if he scared him or what’s what. But he’s determined to find out. He does find the young guy again and they agree to an “arrangement”. This gives Dom some stability in his life and desires. It also means less nights working for Fitch.
Then Dom gets the shock of his life when he finds Fitch at his friend and colleague Nolan’s place. He shouldn’t be surprised that Fitch knows Benji, the guy that Nolan is putting up after accidentally hitting him with his car. But then things get a lot more messy for Dom and Nolan because of a trial and case they’ve been working for a long time.
Fitch and Dom get closer though. They agree to even more time together. Dom spoils Fitch with things at his home to make Fitch feel more comfortable there. But Fitch starts to have feelings for Dom. His friend Ky warns him that this isn’t real. Dom is paying for a fantasy, but it’s not real. This of course makes Fitch sad. It’s clear that these two have moved far beyond Rent boy and customer 😉
So I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first one. Fitch’s hard luck story is one that is far too common – thrown out for his sexuality while still a teenager. Then he manages to find friends to form a family of a sort. The all work together and keep each other safe. Fitch knows Benji’s story and so when things go south, he’s all in to help keep Benji safe while also trying to help Nolan and Dom make their case. He’s dealing with self-esteem issues – not thinking he’s worth anything really. Dom does what he can to ensure that Fitch is NOT his job and that he is a worthy person and worthy of love. Everybody else sees it first with these two 😉 My only niggle is a me thing. Daddy/boy just isn’t really my thing. But if it’s yours, you will probably love this. I’m very interested to see what will happen when Ky’s daddies get thrown into the mix. Recommended.
Glen Lloyd does his usual fab job narrating. Like the first in this series, the voices are spot on for all these characters. The younger rent boys are fully of sass. But they can also be melancholy when they believe things won’t work out 🙁 I love Fitch’s spitfire personality and Dom’s jealousy – a perfect match. Dom’s growly voice and behavior were the perfect counterpoint to Fitch’s bratty whining and misbehavior 🙂 Another well done audio performance!
