At six foot four, muscles for days, and a take charge attitude, Duncan Hawkins is exactly my type and everything I’ve sworn to avoid… So when I find myself in trouble, why is he my first call?
Mika has run before—first from trouble at home, then from an abusive ex.
For the past two years, he’s built a quiet, safe life in Vesper, Texas, determined to never run again. But when his past comes knocking, he needs protection. And there’s only one man he trusts to keep him safe—Hawk.
Hawk is ex-military, a seasoned bodyguard, and the very type that man Mika has spent years avoiding—big, tough, and in charge. Exactly his type. Exactly the kind of man who once broke him.
But Hawk is different. He’s protective, patient, and unwavering in his promise to stand between Mika and danger. As Hawk teaches Mika to fight back—both in his self-defense classes and in life—sparks fly.
But trusting a man like Hawk means risking everything, including his heart. And with his ex growing more dangerous by the day, Mika must decide: keep running, or stand and fight—with Hawk by his side.
REVIEW:
Wow! This one just made my day and I can’t wait for more of this series!!!
I love big, strong, Daddy protectors and Hawk is all that and more!
Mika made a huge mistake when he road off on the back seat of that motorcycle with Butch. Sure, Butch came off as a caring daddy until they left town and all of Mika’s family behind. So, after that last fury of flying fists, he snuck out of town on a bus as far as he could get with the money he took from coffee can in the kitchen cabinet. That was two years ago. Now he has own place, a cute little house he leases, to lay his head at night, a wonderful job working for Mary Ellen, a slight addiction to yarn and all things crocheting, and a group of dear same-minded friends that meet up at one of the Boy’s daddy’s club for Daddy Night. But, while out at the local farmer’s market with his bestie Andy, he catches a glimpse of a man that looks a lot like his abusive ex. So when said ex shows up pounding on his little brick ranch house door he calls the first person he thinks of, his self defense teacher Hawk. Hawk is an owner of Three Bears Tactical Services with his good friends and former military buddies, Wolfe and Gator. When he sees the cutie in his self defense class all shaken he gives him his business card and tells him to call if he’s in danger or needs help. So, when the scared Mika calls Hawk and he hears someone pounding on the boy’s door, he drops everything to get to Mika’s house. But can Hawk keep Mika safe from his nasty ex and his Motorcycle Club? And can Mika learn to trust a Daddy that is real?
Boy oh boy does this book get your heart revving like Butch’s Harley! A sexy but fierce giant that’s trained all things military to protect and defend what’s his. And a sweetheart of a boy that needs a true Daddy to care for him and protect him from his biggest mistake. I loved how Hawk took his time but knew from the start that Mika was the boy for him. And Mika’s sunshiny spirit was perfect for the gruff bodyguard. They just clicked. But Hawk knew to take his time because it was obvious the boy had past trauma to deal with in his short life. And I love that Mika had people looking out for him but he made sure that they weren’t collateral damage from Butch and his MC gang. Mary Ann loved Mika and she was super protective of him. And Andy knew his bestie’s story and held him accountable to tell him the truth. There is such a strong support system in this town for Mika and his friends.
I can’t wait for Gator’s story next and how Mika’s friend Julius is going to keep him on his toes.
