BLURB:

George Hunt wants to get married. The fact that he does is utterly amazing and a huge leap of faith for a man who’s always been certain that happily ever afters only happen in fairy tales. The thing is, though, ever since Christmas, when Dr. Kurt Butler, the man he loves, gave him a ring, he’s changed his mind about what’s possible. But between deployments and venues that have to be booked years in advance, matrimonial bliss seems persistently out of reach. Fortunately, George’s friends come through, offering the perfect setting.

Of course, when your life is full of heroes, there are always villains looking to even the score. When the day of the nuptials conflicts with murderous agendas, the only thing that really matters is being married at the end of the day. If George can keep his eye on the prize and everyone does what they do best, it might just all work out.

REVIEW:

Note:  This is the third story in this series and as such contains spoilers for the events of the previous stories which are mentioned in this one.  For maximum enjoyment, I would recommend reading/listening to this series in order 🙂

Finally!  George and Kurt are getting their big day 😉  But of course if you know anything about George Hunt, you can assume that things will not go smoothly.  And it doesn’t.

This story is told in three discrete vignettes that all take place after Kurt and George’s engagement.  The first takes place when George has returned home from an op overseas where he’s been seriously injured – including a broken ankle that required surgery – and that was the least of the injuries.   George has greatly downplayed the outcome of the operation and the precarious situation he got was rescued from.   George uses his security clearance to fall back on to keep the gory details from his psychiatrist fiance 😉  But this is not going to derail Kurt and George getting married.

The second chapter covers an unexpected visit from Kurt’s long absent/incommunicado mother.  George of course joins Kurt.  Let’s just say this more than 20 years late meeting with Kurt’s mother, her second husband and her children from that marriage and their SOs is completely surreal.  And when it’s clear that these people look down on George, there is just a LITTLE satisfaction when George’s employer shows up at the Michelin starred restaurant to invite George and Kurt up to a Sutter event in the private room.  Oh to have been a fly on the wall for that spectacle 😉

The third chapter takes place on George and Kurt’s wedding day.  When the FBI shows up and a bad bad man from a cartel shows up at Dante’s resort that has been reserved for the intimate wedding of George and Kurt, let’s just say that nobody is happy.  Not Dante.  Not the FBI.  Not the undercover agent who has brought trouble to their door.  Not Sam Kage.  Not Kurt or his family.  Luckily there are enough folks who have the power and connections to make this little problem go away before go time.  But George is worried that Kurt is going to have second thoughts about this marriage before it even happens.  Like somebody spilling the tea on that last overseas adventure and the true danger George was in of not returning.  Luckily Hannah and Jory are there to help Kurt deal with life with a superhero 😉

Oh boy did I love this.  The cameos from the Matter of Time/Marshals series are *chef’s kiss*.  I loved seeing Kurt’s family and particularly enjoyed his mother and her husband being put in their place 🙂  Karma!  Sometimes you get to see it in action!  I loved the whole wedding vibe and of course their had to be some action and suspense 😉  George and Kurt are perfect together and I loved how everyone made sure they made it to the alter so to speak :0

As usual Declan Winters did a spectacular job with this audiobook.  Kurt and George and all of the other characters were spot on and the continuity is frankly amazing given especially the larger number of characters here.  I loved every since minute of this scary, tender, romantic, realistic tale.  Perfect combination of author and narrator once again.  Highly recommended.  I love a good HEA with a wedding 😀
