What happens after the happy ending?

Drawn together for the first time, this is a collection of Lily’s short stories about some of the much-loved men from her books. Follow them through meeting the parents, a disastrous camping weekend, and a rather eventful school trip.

It includes stories previously written for her website, newsletter, and readers’ group, along with five brand new and exclusive short stories—The School Trip, A Honeysuckle Interlude, A Family Affair, Bee’s Amsterdam, and Gone Camping.

REVIEW:

The first thing you need to know about this anthology is that it is made up of shorts based on Lily Morton books. So there are stories from her newsletter, from her Facebook page, and then five new short stories (which of course were my favorites). It is broken up by the couples who featured in a book. Additionally, we get glorious intersections with the couples, because many are friends, coworkers, or neighbors. I loved reading one such as Tricky, which features Gabe and Dylan and getting a cameo from Magnus. Just as an aside, the reason for the name Tricky is adorable and shows the true Gabe. Or when Asa and Jude take a weekend away and end up running into Mal and Caden.

There are shorts involving Gabe and Dylan; Jude and Asa; Henry and Ivo; Oz and Silas; Freddy and Darcy; Barnaby and Cosmo; Joe and Lachlan; Rafferty and Stan; Jed and Artie; Bee and Tom; and Mags and Laurie. I’ve read all their stories and my favorite couple changes all the time.  If I had to choose a favorite of this anthology, I would say A Mystery Tour with Stan and Rafferty, but I loved them all. Oh, it  might be Bee in Amsterdam. And for me, the funniest was Gone Camping.

The best part is every short features Lily Morton’s brand of snark and banter, with love as the foundation underneath, whether it is between family, couples, or friends. “To be handing you something like that, I would have to be one of your men, and I can honestly say, Raff, that I’d rather eat my intestines with a teaspoon.”  Or, “And Ivo said he’d rather cut his ankles off with a butter knife than have to do this.”

There are such sweet moments, too, such as Gabe buying a very expensive collar for the dog. “He’s been homeless. I thought Louis Vuitton would cheer him up.” What is consistent about the stories is that the love signs through.
