Synopsis
This is where everything changes.
Darce has done his best to live off the radar as one of the bloodkind, keeping himself separate from the company of other vampires and the danger they court. The cowboy might be lonely in his solitude, but he’s safe.
Raven’s come to change that. He’s come to change everything.
A newly made bloodkind, Raven’s out to shake up the old world order that oppresses their kind. He carries Darce along in his wake like a leaf on the tide, pushes and goads and tops from the bottom, inciting Darce to lust, passion and action. He makes a centuries-old cowboy feel alive again, something well worth taking risks for.
But when Raven challenges the Sanguine, the most dangerous of all vampires, has he gone too far?

Darce strong-armed Raven all the way home, smarting from the humiliation and wrathful as an oncoming storm. “Easy there, big guy. I bruise,” Raven gibed, play-struggling to slow down and pretending he didn’t care for being pushed around. The hard-on only barely contained in his jeans told a different story, and Darce didn’t care to nor had he the patience for unraveling that particular kink right now, not with his neck on the line.
“Hey there, boy,” Raven greeted Darce’s hound as he passed by. “Who’s a good dog, huh?”
For the love of fuck. Darce had to wrestle Raven hard to keep him from breaking away and crouching down to pet the dog. For his part, the dog looked up with a curious woof and wagged his tail, tongue hanging out. Looked like Blue adored him already. Figured. “Get inside the damn house before I toss you over my shoulder and get you there myself,” he ordered, temper frayed beyond repair.
Raven caught his tongue between his teeth. “Yes, please.”
That was it. Darce shoved Raven forward an arm’s length and planted his boot in the smart-mouth’s backside. One good kick took him to the door, and once Darce had wrestled the lock open, another knocked him through to the dark inside of the shanty, sprawled out on the floor. He dove after Raven and drove his white-knuckled fist to Raven’s jaw for good measure and to vent his anger.
Didn’t help either of their causes. Raven’s grin faded not a whit as he put out his tongue to taste the blood from his split lip and to examine it smeared over his fingertips. “I like a man with fire in him,” he said, leering up at Darce. “Wanna go again? Careful, though. Only the first one’s free. The rest I take out on your body.”
“I have no doubt you would.” Darce kicked the door shut behind him, its echoing rattle-bang satisfying but not nearly enough. The way Raven got to him was enough to send a man mad. Dug deep under his skin and spun him about ’til he didn’t know the difference between sky and earth.
Raven ate him up with his gaze, hungry. “I can only hope,” he crooned as he cleaned the blood off his teeth with his tongue. “You know I like it rough, cowboy.”
“All I know is you’re plain crazy.” Darce got a look at the insistent push of Raven’s hard-on tenting up his jeans and the rise and fall of his chest, at his dilated pupils and his parted lips, and moved back fast. “Oh no you don’t. The hell you don’t.”
“Don’t what?” Raven got to his knees like a good little supplicant, only he was anything but and only a fool would think otherwise. “Don’t yearn for a taste of your cock? Don’t imagine you pushing me down and tearing me open? Shame, shame, ’cause I can’t think of anything else.”

Will Okati (formerly known as Willa) has lived through a few Interesting Times, but come out the other side a little grayer, a little wiser, and ready to get writing. Still as passionate about coffee, cats, and crafts as ever, but knowing that to your own self you must be true. Also still one of the quiet ones to watch out for, but life — like storytelling — is always a work in progress.
