His undead ex is hellbent on dragging him to a premature afterlife. It’s my job to save him without getting us both killed.
Aster
I’m dead.
Or at least I was.
Until I got the opportunity to return to the life I was abruptly torn away from. It’s a no-brainer as far as I’m concerned. I’m not done living yet.
The catch? Become a Soul Chaser. Hunt down the Horrors, deadly souls that escaped The Below and return them to the depths where they belong.
My first assignment comes all too quickly, and I’m thrown into a dangerous world where a man’s life is in my inexperienced hands. The Horror attached to Hudson Davis is particularly nasty with a vendetta that even death didn’t resolve.
Hudson is terrified, rightfully so, and if I’m honest so am I, but there’s too much on the line for me to back out now. Not just my continued journey in the Above, but the chance at something that eluded me my first go round at life—love.
To save Hudson, I have to face Malice head on and not get myself killed. Again. If I’m successful, maybe the tormented and guarded man I’m quickly falling for can see how real our connection is and I can make the most of my second chance at life.
Malice is book one in Soul Chasers, an MM paranormal romance with dark themes, mid-level relationship angst, and spice. In Malice, you can expect a traumatized writer afraid of trusting anyone new, a newbie Soul Chaser recently returned to life (with just a few strings attached), a cast of dead and undead characters, two opposites forced together against a malicious entity, the steamiest revenge, and a love that overcomes all odds.
**The majority of this book takes places in a contemporary setting.**
REVIEW:
This is the first book in a new series from Mia Monroe. This series looks like it will be a great twist on the afterlife theme. Please read the content warnings for any content triggers.
The world building for this new series is extremely well done. Not only does Mia provide a contemporary setting for her living characters but she also creates an entire world containing a heaven/hell theme.
Her character development provides us with a nice depth to it. But she doesn’t limit it to just the main characters, she creates some great details for the side characters as well. One of my favorite side characters is Abigail. We are introduced to Aster and Hudson, our main characters, in this story. As Aster has died at the beginning of the story, he is given the choice to become a Soul Chaser and become almost immortal. Talk about flying by the seat of your pants to learn a new job. Which leads to his meeting Hudson, as his first attempt is to deal with an escapee from the below. Which pairs Aster with my second favorite side character Crash.
The writing is well crafted. With alternating POV’s of Aster and Hudson – we get a good sense of the trials and tribulations each of our main characters is experiencing. There is lots of action going on this one. Plus, there are sexy times sprinkled about, as Aster and Hudson are drawn to each other. Mia’s storytelling also incorporates one of my favorite themes of found family. Who says found family has to be alive.
Do Aster and Hudson figure out how to remove Chester the Horror from the world? Do Hudson and Aster find their happily ever after? As usual, I’m not going to tell you. You will need to grab this new book from Mia Monroe and find out for yourself.
I recommend this new book and series from Mia. I strongly suggest you find your favorite eBook purchasing site and pick up this book. You won’t regret it. I’m excited to get my hands on the next book in this series – so much potential and storylines.
