When the family business is death, how does one help a spirit find the love they lost who’s already on the other side to keep them from doing harm to those on this side?
Keir Dearly, the owner and sole proprietor of Dearly & Son Funeral Home, and his husband, Dashiell Clegg-Dearly, are expecting a bundle of joy near Christmas! When their surrogate is suddenly kidnapped with the baby in tow, both men are frantic to get them back, but can they adequately protect them with the upcoming battle for the Human Realm?
Keir and Dash—who continues to evolve in powers and strength as he prepares for the fight of his life while ridding the underworld of the evil demon, Nyx—learn how to break the spell that was cast over Keir’s family many generations ago. However, it’s not as straight-forward as they’d hoped. With the battle drawing near, all they can do is wait, and isn’t that the hardest part of any anticipated event?
Enter Lorraine Joly. Lorraine has been roaming the universe in search of her true love, Claude, whom she lost in France in the seventeenth century. Her spirit has chased Claude’s through the centuries as he is reincarnated, and now she’s convinced that Keir is living the latest of Claude’s many lives. Is it a coincidence that Lorraine died in Normandy, France, where all the trouble started for Keir’s family due to the actions of one of his ancestors, Henri, who sacrificed the heart of an evil woman for the love of a man?
Keir and Dash continue to piece together the puzzle of their destiny as the final battle brews. It’s time for the Gatekeeper and the Key to fight for the future of all mankind. When the smoke clears, what will their world look like?
Are you ready for the explosive conclusion for Dearly and the Departed?
REVIEW:
The last sentence in the Blurb for this book is “Are you ready for the explosive conclusion for Dearly and the Departed?” and the only answer I could come up with was a possible no and a pretty strong I’m not sure! I originally took this series because I knew this was the alter ego/pen name of Sam E. Kraemer and I was just beginning to open my reading box a little bit bigger crack and was exploring new genres. And I knew if Sam wrote this that I could get away from my preconceived ideas about books with ghosts and demons and the whole underworld. Well let me tell you that this was an epic ride I never saw coming. All the supporting characters that were from both the light and dark sides peaked my interest and I grew very fond of all the spirits that served to protect The Gatekeeper and The Key.
I am especially fond of the last several chapters of this final novel in this series that we were gifted with. I am usually a “but what happened next” after the crisis in a book was thwarted and the book/series concludes. That’s where LA/Sam shone bright in this book. She knows her readers and what they want…no what they need and that’s a guaranteed HEA given to them. She served us this on a huge, shiny silver platter. I have never felt like a series has ever been concluded so throughly. I honestly admit that I’m that reader that writes to authors and asks them if they could grace us with a holiday novella that catches us up on what’s happen to the men that have become real to us and like part of the family. This book actually did it without all the begging and waiting.
So to re-answer the question again…“Are you ready for the explosive conclusion for Dearly and the Departed?” I can now honestly say YES! I will miss this series and these wonderful characters but their story has been done justice and now they can go on with their lives without us watching their every move. Keir and Dash will forever be in my heart as the defenders of humanity and I will miss them but know that they finally got the lives they earned and deserved brought me joy.
