REVIEW:
The Erebus Assassins is another spinoff from Ms. Reese Knightley’s original series Out for Justice, Code of Honor, and Cobalt Security, although I think this will not be the last spinoff because we now also have Justice Force. It is a group of series that involves special operations under the watch and supervision of the former Secretary of Defense, who reports directly to the President. These are men who are mostly former military or police, who do operations under the radar, assisting the local authorities when their hands are tied. The general public will never know they exist, they save in secret but they always get the job done. Among all these groups the Erebus Assassins are the darkest (in terms of what they do) and only a handful of man are willing to be a part of this particular group.
In this book, Agony, we will learn the back story of Fisher and how Justice will try to persuade him that they are good together, not just as partners on the job but more so in real life. When they were told by their new boss that everyone gets paired up on jobs, Justice only wanted to be partnered with Fisher, no one else. But when they are doing jobs, Justice doesn’t follow what they spent hours to plan, he always jumps the gun, does what he wants, and Fisher just about had it with Justice.
When they were assigned something dangerous(Justice thinks), more than the usual level of dangerous, Justice does the unthinkable and did something to Fisher that when he learned what part of what he did triggered those horrible memories in Fisher, Justice cannot believe that he had done that. Although he never knew because he wanted Fisher to tell him himself, but now it’s too late, he has done the one thing that would forever make Fisher hate him for good. After said act, Justice got a different assignment separating him from Fisher, without getting the chance to seek forgiveness from Fisher.
Fisher was one of the original three boys taken by Solomon from the streets, with Echo and Rogue. His memories from those years are just so horrible that he has cPTSD, a mental health condition developed after prolonged or repeated exposure to traumatic events. The events he endured during those years were traumatic and will forever be imprinted in his mind.
When things come to a head, Justice was there for Fisher and Fisher has, more or less, accepted, what he has become and how he can heal, with the help of Justice and his close friends, family actually. And as long as he continues to save the young people who suffered the same fate as him under Solomon, it will be his form of contribution to righting what wrongs were done to them.
Another amazing read from Ms. Reese Knightley. Congratulations! Creating these characters and getting to know them and what they went through pains me but also the feeling of redemption at the end when at least one or several wrongs had been righted fills me with fulfillment and happiness, reading how each character find their partner and getting another chance at life with just happiness and support all around. Amazing!
