REVIEW:
Next we get to know the reclusive wood carver guy that’s friends with Marley and has the booth next to Collin. Wow, didn’t see this one coming!
Theo just wants to be left alone. He has been grieving the tragic and unexpected loss of his wife for 5 years now up in the remote cabin in the woods. He spends his time carving large chunks of wood into statues and smaller pieces into useable pieces. Vases seem to be a big seller and he has a commissioned set of them for Marley, his friend the florist at Heartcraft Market, for a gift to his new husband. Craving takes focus and lets his mind relax a bit from the overwhelming grief he has. But all that solitude is shattered when Onyx shows up and moves in. Onyx has finally hit it big and is just coming off his grueling concert tour. They just wants to “disconnect” and get back in touch with their creative side. So they books a one month getaway in a secluded mountain cabin. It looks perfect to destress and regroup. Problem is that it turns out to be a scam and the owner of the cabin is shell shocked by how Onyx just takes charge and moved right in and sent his driver back to the hustle and bustle of LA. But now they both have caught their breath and the stoic mountain man has a very beautiful Mx stuck at his cabin! With only one bed!!!
I have had only a few true gender fluid characters in books but I finally truly understood them so much better with how well Duckie Mack explained Onyx. She described them so well with all what I needed to know to better understand who they were and how they navigated their life. And Onyx is the epitome of being gender fluid and completely comfortable with who they are and in their body. Onyx is gorgeous and talented. They know what they want and have worked hard to succeed. And they know what they want and how to get it. They are a role model to chasing something you want, grabbing it by the horns and making it theirs.
Poor Theo was a goner from the beginning even if he was pretty shocked with Onyx invading his closely guarded space but he took it in stride. I love how Onyx didn’t rush him and only pushed when their Theodore told them to. I loved how accepting and non-judgmental Theo was right from the start. And how captivated he was by them.
I really have grown quite fond of this series and the marketers at the Heartcraft Market and the ones that have stolen their hearts. But this one might be my favorite.
