What you like to read and how that influences what you write…
I read a lot of different things. Mostly I read romance, but I also love adventure stories as well as mysteries. I really love a good adventure story because it carries me away on the action and the intrigue. Those are things I find a lot of fun. And sometimes elements of those kind of stories make their way into my own writing. I think because I love those stories so much that I can’t help putting in some elements of them into my own writing.
I also love a good mystery and I truly believe that mystery of some sort is required in almost every story. As a reader or a writer, we can’t know everything all up front. We need to figure things out as we go along. So a bit of mystery or things we need to figure out and solve are key to any really good story. Personally I read a lot of murder mysteries, but I don’t usually have murder in my own work, but more than once I’ve used a number of the elements of a good mystery in my stories.
As an author I think that including things we love in our stories helps make the work better and the love, both between the characters and of the story, comes through.
