BLURB:

When Trey Blanton left Westin McCoy, the cowboy life, and his family’s Colorado ranch forever, he just knew he was moving on to bigger and better things.

It sucked to be wrong.

When Trey comes back to the ranch, he brings a ton of baggage back with him. His grandparents are both gone, he’s losing his sight, and his best friend and housekeeper has passed from cancer, leaving him with her two kids. To make things worse, he can’t keep a ranch foreman, and he desperately needs someone to run all the things he can’t.

What he doesn’t need is his ex to muddy up the waters.

Cowboy Westin McCoy leaps at the chance to work as Trey’s ranch foreman when a mutual friend offers him the job. Trey is the one he let get away thanks to his own insecurity, and West finally feels like he might have something to offer Trey, something that he can do to help. He figures he’s all Trey’s, hat to boots.

Together they wrangle old hurt, new hope, and all the things a busy ranch and two growing kids toss at them. Can they get over the hurdle of the past and work through all of the new difficulties to find common ground, or is history doomed to repeat itself?

REVIEW:

For the last couple of weeks, I have been in a bit of a reading slump where no books have been able to hold my attention. Then the opportunity to read and review this book came up and I am so very glad I took it. I rattled through this book in two evenings, it would have been quicker if boring stuff like work, cooking etc hadn’t got in the way.

Trey left his successful corporate life in the city to take on his grandparents’ ranch when they passed away and he has no intention of selling it or letting it fail. The only issues with that is he is going blind and is not a rancher, so he needs some help. Unfortunately, he cannot keep a foreman. Trey also has to learn how to be a Dad to his former housekeepers 2 young children. She sadly passed away from cancer very quickly. This would be a challenge for anybody who has never had kids before, let alone someone who is also learning how to deal with his every decreasing vision and a lack of a housekeeper, nanny and a foreman on a big ranch.

Trey is the one who got away from Westin McCoy. When they were dating Trey was living in the city and Westin is a cowboy through and through. Now Westin has the opportunity to not only be able to help Trey but also to see if he can get another chance with him.

This book is classic BA’s Cozy Cowboy and contained all the elements that I really enjoy in this series.  There is angst, there is romance. There are adorable children, cowboys, a meddling best friend, and an old wise cowboy. A found family that are so supportive of each other and of course there is a happy ever after. It makes me want to sigh when I think about it.

BA is very good at writing the supporting characters as well as the main characters and we got to learn about the history of all of them. I kind of wish that this was going to turn into a mini-series as I would love for Nate to find love and to learn more about Mark’s back story.

Although this is part of a series all the books are standalone, and characters do not cross books. This is definitely a recommended read.
