The fifth and last book in the series the Kings of Chaos by Ms. Jocelynn Drake. If you have been following this series, this is Xiao Dan and Huli’s story.
I am sad that this series is ending but I am happy that all the Zhang clan members have all found their happily-ever after and that Xiao Dan especially have finally given in to his love for his mate, Huli. They really both deserved it after what each of them have gone through in the thousand or so years that they have known each other and became friends.
But just as they were about to start their life as a couple (finally), an old deal that Huli made centuries before came to collect. Although he promised Xiao Dan’s soul to another Huli Jing, he had no intention of allowing that to happen as he had planned to kill the other fox way before he could take his vampire’s soul. In truth though, the other fox, Min, never had any intention of getting Xiao Dan’s soul, he wanted Huli’s power and magic to be hers when she defeats him in a battle. After all, Huli was a nine-tailed fox!
But of course, Xiao Dan would never allow that, neither would his clan. Huli, as his mate, is now part of his clan, thus they would protect him in every which way they can. Huli had to find that out after one fight with Min that injured him significantly. Xiao Dan told Huli that now that he has a clan to protect him he cannot go out there alone to fight Min, they will all fight him but especially Xiao Dan as Min had every intention of harming his mate. With each of their mates able to help, the whole clan made plans as to how to defeat Min once and for all.
This has been one of most heart-wrenching series I have read so far from Ms. Jocelynn Drake, it has brought me on a rollercoaster ride what with the fae, the fights they had with the fae, with the Variks always on the ready to lend a helping hand to whatever the Zhang clan needs. I am beyond ecstatic to read about the lives of the Variks as the ruling clan in the Americas. And then Huli’s deal that he thought would destroy whatever chance he had to be with his mate, Xiao Dan. Whew, it was quite a ride.
Thank you so much Ms. Jocelynn Drake and Congratulations for this wonderful series, I will miss all of them so much but I am also looking forward to the next series you will write.
