BLURB:
The lines between shifters and humans are blurring, and the journey of discovery that began when a lion, a tiger, and a bear found each other—and learned that mates exist—has taken a new direction. More mates are finding each other, and three seems to be the charm.
Brick, a powerful polar bear shifter, and his kitty shifter mate Aric are part of a shifter/human team searching for the camp where their third mate, Seth Miles, has been taken. Since Dellan’s rescue from his stepbrother’s clutches, the team has learned the horrifying truth behind the Geran faction’s plan to capture and imprison shifters and ensure bloodline purity.
They also have another shifter to rescue from the same camp: Seth’s father, Jake Carson. Except Jake is Dellan’s father too, captured by the Gerans three decades ago and until recently, believed to be dead. The camp is like a fortress, and the rescue operation is looking like an impossible quest.
What no one anticipated was help from an unexpected source. Dellan is about to learn why the power-hungry Gerans took his father in the first place–and what they want next.
In this latest installment of Lions, Tigers & Bears, K.C. Wells doubles down on the intrigue… and the passion.
REVIEW:
Within the world of shifters, there are two clans. One is led to believe they are superior and made to rule humans. The other is happy to share with humans. Rumors are spreading. Mates are being found and children abandoned by their protectors. What was the world coming to? Questions are being asked, beliefs are realigned, and some are determined to find their kidnapped mates. A change in the world of shifters is on the way, a war, but how long would it take, and who would prevail?
Visions, Paws and Claws is book-three in the welcome return of the Lions, Tigers and Bears series. It’s a series where mates come in triads – exponentially upping the sizzle, action and angst factors. It’s been a while since I read book two, therefore, it took some time to get to grips with who was mated to who, the new characters and the focus of this instalment. But once everything was slotted into place, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure and eagerly looked forward to book four.
The story is told in the third person from multiple viewpoints. Technicalities are on point, and worldbuilding revolves around a number of places where just enough description is provided for imagined vistas without overdoing the details. Given that the term concentration camp is mentioned, I doubt that it was a coincidence that the Geran name is an M away from German. Take from this what you will. But the theme of indoctrination is present, as is experimentation, of which, both occur off-page. Emotions run high; therefore, sex is used in many formats.
I won’t venture into individual character descriptions (except for a shout-out to KITTYYYYY) as there are many viewpoints. However, there are as many variations in personality and physical traits as there are sexual preferences and positions. They range from calm and collected, speciality, special abilities, the hothead, and the one that engages the mouth before the brain.
Battles aren’t only physical; they’re emotional. The shifters are people who would do anything for love and are prepared to do what they must to serve and protect. The plot also includes ambassador-style representation to spread the word, efficient military maneuvers, manipulation, historical revelations, and more.
So, when a book is this good, why haven’t I given it full marks? Because I don’t have closure. Individual arcs are completed, but others are begun that carry over. Therefore, I turn the last page in a state of frustration instead of satisfaction.
