Their story started with a glimpse, but it’s not all sunshine.
It was the talk of the hotel.
The broken elevator doors.
Some said they were haunted and others said they were possessed.
The gossip only made Phoenix Operative Caleb Robertson shoot a knowing look at his husband. But, the elevator door was the least of their worries. Wolf had some explaining to do.
Former Special Forces Soldier Wolfgang Everett Brandt gave his husband a look that said to behave, but he knew without a doubt Caleb wouldn’t. So what if a bunch of romance writers wanted to embellish what really happened?
Wolf had more important things to do, like owning his part in their current disagreement.
*Please note, this Short Story was previously published as part of then Midnight in The Renaissance Elevator Anthology!
REVIEW:
If you are familiar with the books of Ms. Reese Knightley, then you are familiar with her Out for Justice series, the first of which is Ricochet, the first book I have ever read from her. Wolfgang Brandt and Caleb Robertson had been attracted to each other ever since Caleb was young. Wolf had to wait for the young man to turn 18 so he can confessed his love but things didn’t turn out the way Wolf hoped for, Caleb went missing before his 18th birthday. That was how it all started for these two.
After a few years and a marriage, they are now both working under the former Secretary of Defense, which has Phoenix, Pegasus, and Erebus among other secret groups secretly working behind the authorities. They do what the other law enforcement agencies cannot do legally.
Hard is a short story involving Wolf and Caleb at a crux in their relationship where Wolf becomes too protective of Caleb that they have to do their missions together all the time. But when Wolf was invited into a meeting without Caleb, Caleb felt betrayed in a way. How come Wolf can risk his life without Caleb, but Caleb cannot? Caleb left their home and stayed in a hotel where a group of them operatives are for a mission. When Wolf told Caleb that he did not accept the assignment, Wolf finally accepted that he may have gone overboard with his need to protect Caleb and that he has to show his husband that he believes in him and his capability to do his job, just like him.
Short and sweet and I love it. Thank you Ms. Reese Knightley for this little insight into Wolf and Caleb’s life after their own story, Bulletproof, which is Book 5 in the Out for Justice series.
