Welcome Susan
The idea for this series
Intro to the series I’ve started writing a series called Inhospitable. This work in progress is about a hotel critic named Calyx Black (him in the beanie), an arrogant, cranky man (think of him as the Gordon Ramsey of hotel inspectors) who travels around the world bringing his particular brand of harsh and often rude observations to nervous hotel owners. He’s accompanied on his journeys by his long-suffering Financial Assistant and general factotum, Ethan St John. It’s a tale of enemies to lovers because Calyx can be a real bastard and fights his attraction to Ethan every step of the way. However, Ethan is tougher than he looks, and he can give just as well as he can take. And if that isn’t a double entendre, then I don’t know what is
The series so far is planned to be three books, the first one taking place in Transylvania, Romania and deals with a subject that in today’s modern world of plans to save the planet is very relevant. The others take place in a tropical paradise and a snowy mountain lodge. #lipsnowsealed

The Velvet Petal Hotel
From Calyx’s POV
I glanced at Ethan, who remained, scrolling through his phone. He was making notes, fingers flying across the screen as if were an extension of his fingertips. He did this whole fancy swiping thing to create words, which I couldn’t get my head around. I was a pecker. I’d secretly tried Swype one time, because god forbid I let him know his way looked quicker, but all I’d got was some garbled shit that bore no resemblance to what I wanted to say.
“Ethan, give Kate a call and tell her to get her arse over to the dining room asap.” I may not agree with the hotel owner’s design choices, but I didn’t want to fleece them. Ripping them off was more Lila’s game. When that woman smelt blood, you were lucky to have any left at all by the time she’d finished with you.
Ethan nodded, texting on his phone. then looked up at me. “Done. She’ll be with you in about an hour. She’s in the hotel spa at the moment.”
I nodded. “Did you tell her how bad it was?”
He grinned impishly. It was another thing that floated my boat, his expressive face wreathed in cheekiness. “Nah. I’ll let her find out when she gets here. She owes me for beating me at poker the other night.” He sniffed. “I’ll probably need that increase you refused me, to pay my dues to her. She’s a real card shark.” He raised one eyebrow hopefully. “Changed your mind about that?”
I narrowed my eyes. “I think you forget you’re one of the most well-paid Finance Managers in the industry. I wasn’t about to give you an increase because you wanted to go to Bali for two weeks in the summer.” With another man, flaunting your wares for all to see. No bloody way was I paying for that. “Anyway, you had your annual increase three months later which might I say was very generous.”
He smiled sweetly. “Oh, yes, Bali. We worked it all out, Glen and me. We merged our resources so instead of having two separate rooms, we shared one. It was much cheaper, so the lack of extra remuneration wasn’t a problem.” His gaze met mine. “It had a magnificent king size bed, and it ended up being quite the adventure.”
I gritted my teeth and pretended not to acknowledge he’d just rocked my world. And not in a good way. “Good for you both,” I bit out. “I’m so pleased you had fun. Now, back to the task in hand. Could you please tell Kate to get her butt out of her mud bath or whatever, and meet me in the lounge before she sees Manfred? I’d like to brief her myself on this one.”
He touched his blond, coiffed forelock in mock agreement. “Of course. I’m going to go freshen up then I’ll see you downstairs.” His parting shot came as we both walked out of the room.
“Not only did the sharing a bed work, but we also only had one shower so I found I was happy to get clean more than usual. So it really did work out for the best.”
“Fuck you,” I said sotto voce, but I was sure he heard me as he chuckled loudly.
Goddamn pain of a man.
