Getting kidnapped and held hostage in a human trafficker’s basement was not on my bingo card. Getting rescued by a paranormal being was also not on my bingo card. (Apparently, I needed to trade in bingo cards.) The guy who took me may be dead, but I know there are more people behind the operation, and I plan to shut it down. If I need to get the help of one of the creepy glowing eyed dudes to do it, I will. It turns out Liam is incredibly sexy and really good with technology, too. He may be great at hacking into computers, but I’m determined to hack my way into his life.
Liam
Ever since I looked into the feisty human that Dexter rescued from a basement, I’ve been a little… obsessed. Is it wrong that I watch him all the time and hack into all his technology? I’m just trying to keep him safe. After all, he’s sticking his nose into some troubling areas, and I can’t deal with the thought of him getting taken again. Of course, I offer to help him when I discover his mission to take down a trafficking ring, although my motives aren’t exactly pure. The little human attracts me in a way that I can’t explain, and my hellhound thinks he’s mine, whether he wants to be or not.
Tags: Emotionally traumatized, feisty vigilante and hacker hellhound fall in love; Liam has Quinton under surveillance 24/7 and will protect him; Quinton doesn’t mind being watched if the dude with the glowing eyes will keep him safe; there’s torture and death (but only of really bad people); hellhounds have tails, and they know how to use them.
REVIEW:
Disclaimer time – This is book two of the Hellhounds of Paradise Falls series. You really need to read book one before embarking on Liam and Quinton’s adventures. One, there are so many carryover characters from the first book – you will be lost… Two, there is a long, multi book storyline arc. Three – who doesn’t want to read about Hellhounds with prehensile tails….
Also, before I get to far along with my review, please read the trigger/content warnings at the beginning of this book. Please take the warning list seriously.
I’m always on the hunt for new to me authors. So, this was only the second book of Shannon’s that I have read and I can’t wait to read more of her books. I did read book one of this series and can say this book only builds on the details laid out in book one. The worldbuilding is really well done and I love this little fictional town of Paradise Falls – I wouldn’t mind living there. This world has been created to give safe haven to a variety of people. Which leads to a pack of Hellhounds taking up residence and “engaging” with the human population.
By “engaging” with the humans, I am not just referencing the smoking hot sexy times either – did I mention the prehensile tail. It’s also about the Hellhounds keeping the humans safe from all the outside forces, trying to kidnap and traffic them.
The main characters of this story are Liam and Quinton. Liam is Quinton’s sexy stalker, but only in a good stalker way. Liam is a bit of a computer nerd, who excels at finding the most hidden people on the planet. He uses his skills to keep his snarky hellcat Quinton safe and help track down the human trafficking ring that wants to recapture Quinton. Shannon brings so much detail and depth to not only her main characters, but also to all the side characters as well.
Which brings me to the words – I loved how she combined all the snark and action to bring together such a wonderful story. Even though this story does embrace a computer hacker as one of the main characters, Shannon does not bog you down with a ton of computer tech speech. There is just enough of the tech speech to move the story along.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I highly recommend you run off to your favorite eBook purchasing site and grab this one up. Especially if you want to know if Liam and Quinton get their happy ending. I can’t wait for book three in this series, I’m excited for Fluffy’s story.
