Rylan
I’ve spent my entire hockey career hiding who I really am. Between trying to lead my struggling team, dealing with an alcoholic father, and the weight of my brother’s legacy on my shoulders, I barely know who I am anymore. Then Jamie Pirelli joins the team—young, talented, and openly queer. He sees right through my walls. And then one hot night changes everything.
Jamie
After a disastrous start to my NHL career in Florida, Seattle is my last shot to prove I’m more than just the first openly bisexual player in the League. I cannot afford any more scandals, but the chemistry between me and my deep-in-the-closet team captain is impossible to ignore.
A steamy hockey romance between the team captain with loads of baggage and the sunshiny superstar struggling to be taken seriously. An opposites-attract, hurt-comfort, secret relationship featuring a wounded control freak with a tragic backstory and a free spirit with a tarnished reputation.
Seattle Sasquatch Hockey Book One.
REVIEW:
I love reading new authors, although I’ve known Harper for a few years, this is the first chance I have gotten to read one of her stories. I really loved it. So much in fact I actually read this one in one sitting – that doesn’t happen to often anymore. This story was a fantastic start to this new series.
The worldbuilding for this book is great. I love hockey, so that ticked off a box. I love Seattle, so that ticked off another box. Combining the two made it even more appealing to me. With that said, you don’t have to be a hockey fan or really know much about the sport to thoroughly enjoy Rylan and Jamie’s story. We get a peak behind the curtain, at not only the world of playing hockey, but what hockey players can experience is a lot of homophobia. Which Harper was able to incorporate into this story.
The in-depth characterizations in this book were not limited to the main characters of Rylan, our closeted hockey team captain, and Jamie the up and coming openly bisexual newbie to the Seattle team. Her side characters were also given in depth characterizations.
The prose was also pretty good. It sucked me in from page one and I just couldn’t put the eReader down until I had finished the story. My only wish is for a few more editing passes had been taken on this story. Nothing egregious, but it did make me have to go back and fill in some words a few times. The story was engaging, sexy, and heart breaking. She really put these guys through the ringer. If you want to know if Rylan and Jamie, get their happy ever after, you need to grab this book. If you love a great hockey romance, then please run to the nearest eBook purchasing site and get your hands on this one.
I really recommend this story and new series. I can’t wait to see where Harper takes us in the next book.
