Sometimes, you have to leave your comfort zone to get what you want.
When Dex and Seo-jun are paired on a case, Dex is both nervous and excited to work closely with his secret crush of the past two years. To his delight, Seo-jun begins to open up to him, and, in return, Dex tries not to stare in open-mouthed wonder at his beauty. If only he wasn’t juggling his bodyguard duties with his usual tech work, his sister’s problems, and his mother’s interference, maybe he could enjoy himself.
Burned by love at a young age, Seo-jun hasn’t given romance much thought in the past decade. Until Dex. The cluelessly sexy tech specialist at Falcon Security has been teasing his way under Seo-jun’s skin for months. As partners on a case, the two men have to share a bed in their client’s home, and no one’s more surprised than Seo-jun that he enjoys those moments in close quarters. Dex is easy to talk to and fun to be around, and Seo-jun feels comfortable with him–something he doesn’t normally feel with people. It isn’t long before Seo-jun comes to the realization that, if he wants to be with Dex, he needs to change some things about himself.
Seo-jun soon learns that issues left undealt with will eventually resurface, and as Dex tries to help him face his past, Seo-jun attempts to be supportive when Dex finally gets the courage to come out to his dysfunctional family.
REVIEW:
Note: This is book 4 in this series, but it works fine as a standalone. I hadn’t read the previous books and didn’t feel like I missed anything that detracted from this story.
Dex is a computer guy for a security firm. He’s recently come out to his work colleagues and he’s also taking on a more active role in the security part of the business – training and working on some cases. He’s paired with Seo-jun on a personal protection case for the owner of the climbing gym he frequents. He’s had trouble and is worried about this narcissist of an ex who seems to have found him even though he literally moved across the country.
Seo-jun works for the same security company and he’s an expert at self-defense and martial arts. He’s been training Dex and they are friends. However it’s clear that both men are attracted to each other. During the case, Dex gets injured and he and Seo-jun admit their feelings. They are keeping things private but it becomes pretty obvious that they are together 😉
There is family drama from Dex’s mother who keeps wanting to set him up with women and he’s got a pregnant sister who has mental illness issues. These drive Seo-jun and Dex’s relationship also. Dex needs to figure out how/when to come out to his mother, but the other family stuff is holding him back. He does his best to be a good son and brother though.
Seo-jun has his own past issues with his growing up. He was a bit of a refugee and then he was with a man who groomed him for years before he was on out on his own. He’s a very contained person but he feels more secure and comfortable with Dex the more time they spend together. This helps both Seo-jun and Dex deal with the drama that gets thrown their way. They are good for each other and really fit.
I really enjoyed this book! Despite some heavy issues and past trauma – particularly for Seo-jun, this is not a really angsty book. Dex’s family is really dysfunctional, but he and Seo-jun together are able to weather the storms and come out on the other side. Dex is a really good brother and he does his best for everyone. I’m heading back to read the other books now 😉 Recommended.
