BLURB:
Mike’s inheritance comes with a few unexpected extras: peeling paint, outdated bathrooms—and four drag queens.
Oh, yeah—and secrets. Lots of secrets.
The last thing Mike O’Neill expected was to inherit a property from his Uncle Nick. The Velvet House is part of Provincetown’s history, complete with a bar, a hotel, a dance club, and a venue for drag shows. It’s seen better days, however, and restoring it would require more money than Mike possesses.
It also comes with four squatters who’ve been expecting him—and who won’t leave. In fact, the first night Mike spends under his new roof brings with it some unexpected—and heat-inducing—offers.
What do you call a collection of unwelcome drag queens anyway?
Mike has bigger problems to deal with. The Velvet House is about to go under, taking Nick’s dream with it. Nick’s drag queen found family has plenty of ideas to help save the day, all of which will have unexpected consequences for everyone involved.
Some of those plans require a lot of work, but Christmas is a time of mistletoe and miracles, of laughter and love.
And heels. Don’t forget heels.
REVIEW:
Full disclosure, holiday stories are really not my thing. But as I’ve mentioned in other reviews, this is a K.C. Wells story and that was all that needed to be mentioned and well, this book has drag queens. This book is your classic Christmas rom com. Think about those holiday TV movies and this one is spot on. A found family story at its finest. Mike and Sam are just perfect for each other. Tragedy brings them together, but it’s family that keeps them together.
The worldbuilding in this story is so well done. It enhances the sweet and cozy feel of the story. And really Provincetown is the best place to be the backdrop for this amazing story.
I always loved how K.C. fleshes out all of her characters. From the side characters to the main characters – she brings so much depth and passion to them. From Mike and Sam our main characters to the other drag queens and including the minor characters. We get such a feel for the story through their development. Mike inherits his estranged uncle’s estate, where he meets Sam, Anthony, Elliott and James, the drag queens inhabiting his late Uncle’s property. Which leads to all kinds of fun as they try to save the property for real estate developers.
Through out the book, even though it is low angst, we get the sense of all the missed opportunities, that lead to my most favorite thing of all – found family. No matter what K.C. is writing she continually brings her A game to pages. As this story is a rom com, the humor and its timing is well placed and executed.
Will they save The Velvet House? Will all the Queens find love? Will Mike embrace drag? Honey, I am not going to tell you. If you are looking for a sweet holiday rom com, this is the story for you. There are a few surprises along the way, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
With all that said, I highly recommend this story and insist you run to your favorite eBook purchasing site and grab up this book as wonderful present to yourself. To enjoy when you need a break from all the hustle and bustle of the season.
