After my medical discharge from the Army due to a brain injury, I’ve had to reinvent myself. Not easy when I can’t even remember what I ate for breakfast.
Or the hot, older guy I went home with. Oops.
When I run into him a second time and hit him up as if we’ve never met before, Jarek’s a little insulted. I can’t exactly blame him. But when he learns my memory is shit, he seems flattered I’ve picked him up twice.
And he’s all in for hooking up again. And then again. Our chemistry is off the charts.
We’re just friends with benefits, nothing more. I want to take my time exploring who I am, and Jarek wants the happily ever after and white picket fence.
But the more time we spend together, the more I question if it’s really only friendship I want from him. I’m getting awfully attached. Could it be we want the same thing?
Bean is the second book in the Honorably Discharged series, featuring a sweet guy who’d forget his own name if he didn’t write it down, a guy who thought he’d never find love again, found family, an age gap, friends-with-benefits to lovers, hurt/comfort, and a steamy happily ever after.
REVIEW:
This is the second book in the Honourably Discharged series which is about 4 soldiers discharged after an explosion on base impacts them all, physically and or mentally. They all live together in their first sergeant Nash’s house.
This story focuses on Merrill or as he prefers to be known Bean .
Bean suffered a major traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the explosion. This has led him to have lost his short-term memory, suffocation, and have bouts of anger, aggression and self harm. After managing to get his first job, after leaving the army, in a bar and after finally admitting to himself he is bi he pulls Jarek twice.
We meet Jarek for the first time as he is leaving the court house after getting his divorce finalised. He has his brother and his best friend to get him through the pain. To his amazement he manages to pull much younger , gorgeous and very inexperienced man, Bean. However the second time they meet Bean doesn’t recognise him. After explaining why they start a “friend’s with benefits” relationship so Bean can tick off everything on his list. But really is that all either of them want?
I really enjoyed the writing style in this book. It was really sympathetic to the characters. I also liked that Bean meeting Jarek doesn’t suddenly fix either his memory or his struggle with sex due to his very religious upbringing.
I also really liked that we got to know more about all the four men, all of whom we met in book one in the serious Creek. It was especially good to understand Nash and Tameron more as I felt I knew them the least. I am really looking forward to their books in the future.
Whilst I don’t think it is strictly necessary to have read Creek first I do think it would enhance your enjoyment of this book if you do.
