Synopsis
Taking chances is what Alexander lives for – especially when it comes to love.
Alexander’s a man of uncommonly happy disposition. His luck always holds true, and he takes chances with cheerful abandon. When he sees a Christmas Eve wedding running amok and a hot best man in need of help before Bridezilla goes boom, it’s second nature for him to step in and lend a hand — especially with regard to the delectable best man, Noah. He’ll offer that one anything he needs — a hand, a mouth, an… ahem.
And why not? The way Alexander sees it, he’s having fun and earning good karma — and he might just already be falling in love.

“So what brings a guy like you to a place like this? I don’t mean best man brother of the bride duties. I mean, out here all by your lonesome, decorating tables.”
“Here’s the truth. Plain and simple. I don’t have a date.”
“Wait. That’s it?” Alexander’s brain caught up with his mouth. He leaned across the table, keeping his voice low. “You’re not out?”
“What? No, that’s not the problem. My family’s reaction… most of them asked me if that was supposed to be a surprise, and my mother started flipping through her contacts looking for any of her associates who might have gay sons.”
“Then I’m not getting it.”
“I’m not a gold-digger.” Noah shot him a glare. “Nor am I in need of being set up, especially with –”
Ah. “Especially with guys of a moral caliber best enjoyed on a summer’s eve?”
“That’s politer than I would have put it,” Noah said. “I would have just gone with calling them douches.”
“If you want to be prim about it, sure.”
“I was raised to be a lady,” Noah agreed with a twinkle in his eye. “But yes, that’s pretty much the case.”
“And you’d rather find someone on your own.”
“A hundred percent. Even if it does seem to be taking a while.” Noah gestured from the elbow. “But it is a little frustrating to be here alone, and whether I volunteered or not, which I’m not confessing to –”
“Uh-huh.”
“– it’s still not a lot of fun to be assigned wallflower status and the assumption made that I have nothing better to do.”
Alexander thought that over. He tapped his thumbs together. Simple. Perfect. If Noah went for it. “Not a problem. I’ll be your date.”
“Excuse me?”
“Go to dinner with me afterward, and I’ll do this.”
Noah rearranged a place setting without looking at it, keeping his gaze trained sideways at Alexander. The small smile he couldn’t quite hide peeked out, knowing and amused. “Would you do this even if I said no?”
Ah. Alexander knew the answer to this question. Luckily, it would’ve been the same. Lying wasn’t his style. “Yeah. I would.”
“I see.” Noah fluffed out the roses in the table’s slim crystal vase. “And by dinner, do you mean ‘take me home and fuck me out of my mind’?”

Willa Okati (AKA Will) is made of many things: imagination, coffee, stray cat hairs, daydreams, more coffee, kitchen experimentation, a passion for winter weather, a little more coffee, a whole lot of flowering plants and a lifelong love of storytelling. Will’s definitely one of the quiet ones you have to watch out for, though he — not she anymore — is a lot less quiet these days.
