One thing I know about Terry O’Connor—the man has complicated relationship written all over him, something I’ve avoided for pretty much forever. One thing I know about Terry’s hometown, Painted Bay—it’s a long, long way from my life as a Mackenzie Country veterinarian, and dedicated, carefree bachelor. All of which should be good news.
No reason to look twice at the gorgeous man currently staying at Miller Station with his daughter.
No reason to daydream about his soft lips, quirky sense of humour, sexy smile, or the way he blushes whenever he catches me staring which is far too often.
No reason to second guess my future plans or reconsider the no-strings lifestyle I’ve worked hard to perfect.
And absolutely no reason to feel disappointed that Terry is even less interested in a relationship than I am. I should be relieved.
Then why can’t I stop thinking about him and how right it feels when we’re together? Why does my heart spin at the very mention of his name? And why does the thought of moving on without Terry and his daughter in my life feel like the loneliest decision in the world?
REVIEW:
From one of the best Authors I have ever read comes the fourth installment in the series A Mackenzie Country Story. It is the story of our beloved Veterinarian, Spencer, and Terry who comes to the Mackenzie for Zach to look into Hannah, his daughter who suffers from JIA, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, a form of arthritis in children. Terry is one of the characters in Ms. Hogan’s other series, Painted Bay. Terry is a single Dad who has been taking care of his daughter since he became a young father at 16.
Spencer is known around the Mackenzie as someone who’s not into relationships, has several hookups, and still a gentleman about it. He is upfront with not wanting relationships so that whoever he is with at that moment knows the real score. We will learn the reason why he is like this towards relationships.
Terry and Hannah have come to the Mackenzie because of Zach, they want Zach to look into Hannah and prepare her before she goes to Nolan Dance Academy. They will be staying at Miller Station, owned by Holden and Gil.
As these two men continue to meet and talked, they got to know each other and it was just easy for them to talk about things that otherwise doesn’t come out when talking to the others. There was a certain camaraderie from the first moment, it wasn’t that obvious though. And both are the same in that they both don’t want any relationship because one is wary of it while the other simply doesn’t have time and need to focus on his daughter. But as they got to know each other, boundaries began to blur and however hard they try, feelings start to take root. But still they are both adamant that nothing can come off it. Well, Terry is still adamant but Spencer is starting to doubt what he wanted before and why.
But things are never easy right? When Hannah had a little accident, she and Terry had to go back sooner than scheduled in order to have tests and scans done, Spencer was left feeling alone and lonely for the first time since he started this “no relationship” status.
When something Terry and Hannah had been avoiding becomes inevitable, Terry starts to close down again, focusing all his attention on his daughter. Spencer couldn’t get through to him, speaking to him daily since they left the Mackenzie.
Will these two ever catch a break? Hard decisions have to be made. Oh, I love Spencer and Terry so much, what they have gone through in the past have shaped the awesome men they have become in the present and I wish them all the happiness in the world.
Thank you so much Ms. Jay Hogan, once again you have created a story so beautiful that I can’t help but be in love with it. I love the way you write, I love your men and all the other characters you have created. I literally cannot wait for more! Congratulations!
