They held up the carefully wrapped book. “And I’ve got their book.” “Excellent. Amalia promised to make her stracotto alla fiorentina. I love a good pot roast, and theirs is always beautifully tender. It’s the perfect autumnal stew.” Teresa brushed her hand against Hyde’s before interlacing their fingers. “How was your day?” Hyde shrugged. They never enjoyed small talk, even from Teresa. “Day-like.” “How about I ask a better question?” Teresa leaned into them a little. Her smile was genuine and sweet, with no sign of mocking in her tone. “Did the furred menaces enjoy the treat I sent over for breakfast?” Hyde smiled at their girlfriend. “They did.” Girlfriend. We’re dating. We’ve had a date. Dates, even. Is she my girlfriend? “Are you my girlfriend?” Hyde blurted the question, then closed their eyes and groaned. “I didn’t mean to say that out loud.” “I am. I’m sure some people would think it far too fast to claim titles of any sort in our relationship, but sod them. We’ve known each other for years. I figure we’ve slowly been dating without admitting it for much of that time.” Teresa rubbed her thumb across Hyde’s hand soothingly. “And you’re my chubby ginger bookshop owner who I adore to pieces.” “Not literally. I like my pieces put together.” Hyde loved the almost musical lilt to Teresa’s laugh.
Dahlia Donovan wrote her first romance series after a crazy dream about shifters and damsels in distress. She prefers irreverent humour and unconventional characters.
