Why does love have such bad timing? When one gives up on love, why does it come knocking on the door in the form of an uptight lawyer who thinks he’s better than a world-weary young cowboy?
Ranch hand Mickey Warren moves to Holloway, Virginia, in search of a better life. From the day he arrives at Katydid Farm, the family treats him as one of their own, even inviting him to live at the ranch house when his only option is sleeping in his old truck. The family makes Mickey feel as if he’s finally been accepted and loved for the man he’s become.
Mickey doesn’t dwell on his unhappy past or his surprising breakup from a younger man who didn’t do him the courtesy of saying goodbye—or saying anything at all. Mickey tries not to be bitter about the events from his past that have broken his heart. Instead, he chooses to look forward to the future with as much optimism as he can muster. He almost loses his hope for a better future, but then, he meets… The Lawyer.
Jon Wells is his parents’ son in every aspect of his life—a family law attorney like his father; empathetic defender of the underdog, like his mother; and loyal friend and supporter as he’s been taught by both parents. They have John’s life all planned for him. The glitch in that plan—it isn’t Jon’s plan.
In the aftermath of a bad breakup, Jon swears off younger guys, only to have a gorgeous one come into his life. Jon’s not ready for the cowboy hat, boots, and a sexy swagger, but the temptation is stronger than anything Jon’s ever faced.
Can Jon take one more chance on a younger man? Can Mickey finally find a man who won’t break his heart by leaving without a word? Two men running from possible heartache. Can love run faster and catch them both?
REVIEW:
I am really enjoying this series and getting to know all the cowboys on the Katydid and Circle C farms.
Mickey Warren hasn’t had the greatest of luck with romance. But he hit the jackpot for a new life when his old boss sent him in search of a job at the Katydid Farm. Those folks adopted him and made him one of their own. And now he’s in a pickle. He wasn’t thinking when he kissed that boy but now he’s going to have to leave the first place in his life that accepted him as he is and made him a part of their family. Thankfully Tim, who has become his best friend, and Matt, Tim’s husband, have a better idea and now he’s moved in to help with them with their horses and their sweet son Ryan. But when Matt’s lawyer shows up for the weekend it’s obvious to everyone that chemistry is brewing between these two. But Mickey isn’t up for a quick roll in the hay and Jon seems to be a one and done kinda guy. So how does that work?
I love cowboys and cowboys that take in kids are my kryptonite! So this book just did it for me. Add in that Jon and Mickey don’t take on an easy ready made family but a little girl with special needs and a boy that’s already in the system and just got caught tagging and the challenge is even more real. Plus there is the whole Katydid/Circle C farms love and acceptance and how can your heart not melt. I get that Jon practices Family Law and sees the worse in what can happen when love goes south. But Mickey is solid even though he doesn’t have many years under his belt. He’s had it rough and now finally is in a place where he is loved and that’s hard to leave. But that family that adopted him as their own want him to have what they have and will always be there for him.
This book was so heart warming that it’s a no brainer that it’s at the top of the charts on Amazon for LGBTQ+ Parenting and Families. It just warms your heart on a cool fall evening. Great book that will give you all the warm fuzzies and feels 💕
