Two problems with that plan. One , Evan Kelly doesn’t want to be protected. He fights me at every turn. Two, I want him. I want him bad, I try to ignore the flames of attraction that smolder between us, but then I’m forced to hide Evan at my cabin to save his life.
A remote cabin in the woods . One bed. A man that I’m crazy about. Those flames of attraction can’t help igniting in to FIre.
REVIEW:
This the second book I’ve read in the Jagged Love series. There’s just something so enticing about men who are trying to right the wrongs of their past.
Luca escaped from the chains that were holding him prisoner and he has no intentions of visiting his past. But when you are offered the chance to atone for the terrible things he did in his youth, he can’t say no. The fact that he’s admired Evan Kelly and his determination to bring down the Reivers, sways his determination as well.
Evan is tired of being scared. He’s been trying to convince himself that he doesn’t believe that he’s in danger from the Reivers, but he knows that he’s lying to himself. When Luca walks in his door, his whole life is turned upside down.
It was interesting to watch these two characters learn to overcome the challenges their past has thrust upon them and find their way closer together. Luca’s determination to keep Evan safe is one of the biggest obstacles they have to climb. Their banter doesn’t quite find it’s way to cute or flirty and that’s okay because they are in a very serious situation. But the warmth that grows between them is lovely and I loved how vulnerable they became with each other.
I enjoyed watching Evan’s friendship with Dream grow and got a kick out of the dude bro relationship between Luca and the other former members of the Reivers.
This wasn’t the perfect story. The pacing was a little off and it went too slow in some places and then rush the storyline in others. But then again, this is a review and it’s only my opinion.
I am looking forward to seeing where this storyline goes from here and there are a few more books in the series that I need to catch up as well. I mean, it’s a hard ship, but someone has to get all this reading done right?
So, to recap, interesting characters who are easy to empathize with. A good storyline that kept me reading, even when I was struggling to focus and side characters that made me want to know more about them. An easy 4.25 hearts and I’m off to find the rest of the series.
