BLURB:
A hillbilly and a former Marine walk into a bar sounds like the opening line of a joke. But it’s no laughing matter for Tyler Warboys when werewolf alphas Rocky and Blaze Blackstone enter the Byte Bar, the computer repair store where he works.
Tyler is instantly attracted to the huge, powerful, but allegedly dangerous creatures. And, miracle of miracles, they feel a connection to him, too. But how can that be? Tyler is human and Rocky and Blaze are not. However, the alphas can smell a faint something on Tyler that has them wondering if he isn’t as human as he’s always thought. But as Tyler has never shifted, how can he be a werewolf?
So many questions, but between the three of them, they are bound to find some answers. Surely three isn’t always a crowd, especially where love is concerned?
REVIEW:
“Tyler’s Alphas” by Drew Hunt is a brief but engaging Omegaverse romance that feels more like the opening act of a larger story than a complete novella. While the premise is hot, and I enjoyed the low-angst plot, the lack of character development and backstory left me wanting more.
The story centres on Tyler, an omega who finds himself caught between two sexy wolf-shifter alphas. Hunt adds some sweet touches to the developing relationships, such as the alphas each giving Tyler meaningful personal gifts, but there isn’t time for these moments to fully land emotionally and be built upon.
Chad White’s narration is generally solid, though the audio quality could be sharper, avoiding breath sounds and the like. His interpretation of Blaze’s accent ventures into caricature territory, distracting me from the character’s personality and reducing him to a stereotype.
Despite its brevity, the story manages to be both satisfying and frustrating – satisfying in its heat level and low-drama approach, but frustrating in its lack of depth and too-soon ending. It reads like the first part of a serial, and left me hoping for a more fully developed continuation of the story.
