What happens when a witch’s familiar turns out to be more than just an innocent kitty?
When Lachlan, a shy hearth witch, adopts a stray cat from the streets, the cat becomes his cherished companion and familiar. Lachlan couldn’t be happier—until one snowy night when everything changes.
Kit loves his witch. After all, Lachlan saved him, keeps him fed and warm, and gives him the best pats. The thing is Kit isn’t just a cat. He’s a shifter who’s just forgotten how to shift. But then one night, desperate to express his feelings to Lachlan, Kit returns to his human form. Unfortunately, Lachlan doesn’t react how Kit expects. Now Lachlan avoids Kit. He won’t pat, cuddle, or tell Kit he loves him. Kit should have just stayed a cat! Everything was wonderful then.
How can Kit show Lachlan he is the same, regardless of his form? Can he win back Lachlan’s affection? Or will Kit be a familiar without his witch this Christmas?
REVIEW:
Oh my gosh! This is such a cute story 🙂 I love Kit and Lachlan so much. Kit has had such a rough time. He’s all alone fending for himself. He’s missing half his tail, half an ear, patches of fur. He’s very malnourished. Then Lachlan, a hearth witch sees him in the alley behind the bakery. Lachlan is lonely and he sees a black kitty scrounging for food The kitty is cold and skinny and very hungry. Little does Lachlan know that the kitty is lonely too.
After some time, Lachlan keeps feeding the kitty in the alley and trying to get him to let Lachlan pet him. He wants to give the kitty a home and some warmth and love. The kitty is noticeably and understandingly skeptical and skittish. The damage to him and the sad state he was in certainly provide the evidence that he’s not been well-treated. Eventually though Lachlan coaxes him inside. He runs off after being scared, but then he comes back when Lachlan is alone and relents to staying in the bakery kitchen with Lachlan where he’s safe and warm and cozy and fed! He even begins to purr 😉
Lachlan loves having the kitty with him and names him Kit. Kit seems to be perfectly happy in his new home and loves being with Lachlan too. Lachlan’s many siblings are around (there are 9 of them) and Kit gets more comfortable as time goes on. What he is not comfortable is others touching Lachlan – especially after he agrees to be Lachlan’s familiar.
One evening after a tense exchange when someone gets to close to Lachlan, Kit is very much displeased. But when they get back to the bakery and Lachlan confesses that he loves Kit, well they both get a big surprise. And Lachlan’s shock is quite a lot. Despite living in a city he is quite naive. Kit has forgotten a lot of his past, but Lachlan’s family is there to try to help. Too back Lachlan has as bit of a struggle.
Eventually though, the get to a good place and Lachlan accepts Kit as his.
I loved how this story developed between these two. There is a lot of pain to be overcome, but it’s not dark or maudlin. Kit and Lachlan are so sweet and really deserved their happily ever after so much. They been through a lot – much of which they have in common. This is a delightful world populated by many interesting creatures and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of them in more detail. I can see that there will be no end of possible stories here and that this whole Holiday series will be such fun!
