If I was gonna go queer for anybody, it would be my ridiculously hot best bro.
But we’re not gay. We’ve just been best friends for more than a decade. Sure, we slap each other on the ass. Sure, I’m at his house all the time, and he told me I could move in and I wouldn’t have to pay any bills. Sure, we sometimes kiss each other on the cheek and share the bed, platonically, of course. We know more about each other than any girlfriend ever could—bro stuff.
When Rise is up for a new contract for a crazy big project, I tell him to go for it. There’s nobody better for the job than him. Then, his potential boss mistakes us as being in a relationship. Crazy, right? Where’d he get a far-fetched idea like that? So, we fake it ’til he makes it. And Rise makes it. He gets the job.
Pretending to be in love with my best friend isn’t hard. We just act the same with a few added kisses here and there that feel good. Better than good. Better than they should.
Then we get curious. Hands start to wander. There’s bare skin and experimentation that goes way too far to explain away as just being fake boyfriends. But it’s all to play the role, isn’t it?
So why am I starting to want what we’re faking to be real?
I’m straight.
At least, I thought I was.
My Best Friend Thinks he’s Straight is a standalone novel. It’s sweet with lots of heat, so 18+ readers only, please! Warning for homophobic family members.
REVIEW:
What happens when two very close best friends have to fake a gay relationship so one can land a prestigious contract? Make it look as real as it can! And when it is easier than they though and starts to be real? Can those two besties figure out they aren’t as straight as they always believed? And can their friendship survive that discovery???
This was a book about a sweet couple that never realized what everyone else saw plainly…that they were living life to the fullest as a couple even though they never knew they were. But, boy oh boy, the angst level of this book about did me in. These two guys really needed to learn to communicate better. That and talk it out before they rushed into anything more. Especially sexual. Because, whether they realized it or not, these two men were never completely straight!
I did love that everyone that was close to them were constantly pointing out the obvious but these two were oblivious to the truth. Especially Maverick’s little sister Daisy. She’s someone I would always want on my side! And I loved how she went to bat against their parents for Rise and Mav. And I loved that Rise’s Mom was shocked they never figured out what they were to each other before this. But it was Jim, Mr. Ross’s husband and Mac’s Gay Dad, that made this book for for me. I’m sure they all wanted to smack these guys up aside the head and tell them to open their eyes (and hearts) to what is standing right in front of them. And to hang on tight because you don’t get this often in life.
Be prepared for some pretty strong homophobic beliefs. I could never understand how a parent loves their child with all their heart and then completely can cut them out of their lives because they finally have the courage to say out loud who they really are. Thank goodness some families have spitfires like Daisy in their lives to make them recognize the consequences to their actions.
