BLURB:
While listening to the wildly popular paranormal podcast Ghost After Dark, psychic Copeland Forbes hears a disembodied voice crying out for help. The episode was investigating the haunting of a clifftop mansion, where Domenica Fibonacci lived with her wealthy husband, Vic. On a stormy night in 1984, she tragically fell to her death. Forty years later, one question remains: did Domenica jump or was she pushed?
Detective Jude Byrne isn’t convinced the cry for help was real, arguing it was a con job employed in the hopes of bringing more listeners to the podcast. When the host invites Cope onto the podcast to communicate with Domenica’s spirit, Jude is against the idea, fearing the offer is a trap meant to expose Cope as a fraud.
When there’s a major break in the Rothschild haunting, Jude and the cold case detectives are assigned to the case. Working together, Jude and Cope must piece together the clues to determine once and for all how Domenica died.
Did Domenica jump? Was she pushed? More importantly, what role did her husband play in her untimely death?
REVIEW:
First apologies to Pandora for how long it took me to get this review written. As in her books life gets in the way sometimes and as in her books, I have a wonderful group of found family members to keep me buoyed up.
Disclaimer – This is book 20 in the Haunted Souls series, plus it is intrinsically connected to Pandora’s Cold Case psychic series. All this means if you have not read any of either series, you will need to do so before you partake of this book.
The concept behind this story was so much fun. I’ve not had a lot of time to listen to podcasts, but the one featured in this story, should become a real one. Although there probably is I just don’t know about it. But it’s a brilliant plot twist. The worldbuilding just keeps getting better and better. New characters appear in this one and I hope we might see more of them in the future. She writes, brilliantly detailed, in-depth backgrounds for all her characters, regardless of being a main or side character. Which makes you become so invested in them.
In this story Jude and Cope take on the ghostly appearance of Domenica during an episode of the podcast Ghost After Dark. What I really enjoyed was Cope’s inclusion in solving this case. I mean he’s always there helping to solve cases with the Scooby squad, but this one focused more on his involvement. I always enjoy these plot twists.
I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this before in my reviews of this series, but Pandora’s prose always feels like coming home to me. And this story is no different. I always feel like these characters are family and I could just pop in and have a chat or a reading at West Side Magick.
So, please do yourself a favor and pick up this series and fall in love with Jude, Cope and the whole gang. You won’t regret it.
