REVIEW:
The novel explores themes of love, fate, and the complexities of relationships, all set against a backdrop of supernatural elements. Dakata is a demon who spends most of his time in the human realm, managing his record label and keeping his squabbling siblings in line. Silas is unusual for a Dryad; he spends most of his time in the forest with his tree but every Friday he ventures into the city to sing at a club. He has a gorgeous voice and loves to spread his magic to help people feel better and ease their burdens a little bit. Silas is in lots of ways naive, but he has a warm heart and is generous, using the money he earns from singing to buy food for his sister and friends in the forest. I enjoyed the fated mates’ part of the story and it was lovely that they both accepted it straight away. It was a nice touch that Silas’s tree was as involved with the mating as both Silas and Dakata. As a demon and a dryad, they come from very different worlds, which leads to misunderstandings and conflicts. They both struggle to understand how they could fit into each other’s very different worlds, but love finds a way and compromise is key to finding the balance between them.
When Silas is kidnapped, which puts a strain on their relationship and forces Dakata to confront his deepest fears and anger. Dakata’s demon side becomes uncontrollable, posing a threat to both Silas and their bond. Both characters face meddling from those around them, both their families and others which complicates their efforts to form a stable relationship.
Both Silas and Dakata have their own insecurities and past traumas that they need to overcome to fully trust and commit to each other. They overcome their personal insecurities through a combination of mutual support, open communication, and personal growth. They consistently support each other through their struggles. Dakata helps Silas feel safe and valued, while Silas provides Dakata with understanding and patience, especially when his demon side becomes overwhelming. They learn to communicate openly about their fears and insecurities. By sharing their past traumas and vulnerabilities, they build a deeper trust and understanding.
Silas learns to embrace his worth and talents, while Dakata confronts his inner demon and learns to control his darker impulses. Ultimately, their love for each other helps them accept their flaws and insecurities, allowing them to grow individually and as a couple. Their journey is a testament to the power of love and the importance of facing one’s fears with the support of a loved one.
