Love Bytes is delighted to welcome to their blog author Lyn van Dorn joining us today to talk about new release “Kiss Me Kit”.
Lynn talk about her participation in this series and brought a wonderful giveaway.
Welcome Lynn 🙂
I’m delighted to be part of The twisted Bard series. When it was proposed, I immediately snagged The Taming of the Shrew because I’ve wanted to write a romance based on that story for decades.
I blame Moonlighting, a TV show from the 80s I was obsessed with. It was a workplace romantic dramady starring Cybill Shepard and a very young Bruce Willis. My favorite episode is one in which they reenact The Taming of the Shrew. I was just a child when the episode aired and I was fascinated with it.
My mother fed my addiction with rented VHS tapes of movies based on the play. There was the version with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as well as Kiss Me, Kate, which I adored. I rented it from Blockbuster many times. Then there were movies with a similar character dynamic, like His Girl Friday.
I love characters that bicker and snark their way to their happy ending and I had a delightful time writing Kiss Me, Kit. I fell in love with my characters, Kristoff and Peter, as they peeled their layers back and showed me, and each other, everything underneath all their sniping. I hope readers will fall and love with these complicated but endearing men that I’ve come to adore.

Kristoff
I hate Peter Verona. Over the past two decades my father has molded him into the monster who will steal the one thing in life I’ll never give up: the mega corporation I’ve inherited from my grandfather.
I will concede Peter his handsome, and charming to everyone except me, but his mission is to destroy me, crushing me utterly under his heel. I’ve been demoted to a lowly assistant and Peter is made my boss. He drives me insane because that’s his real job. He can’t fire me as long as I follow corporate policy, but there is nothing keeping him from breaking me until I quit.
I won’t succumb to him, no matter how much he pushes me, and I’ll never let him know how much he turns me on.
Peter
I hate Kristoff Minola. I’ve hated him for what feels like my entire life. He’s a rich, spoiled prince who has been taking things from me my entire life. Finally, I have the chance to fight back. All I have to do is make him quit and I’ll have everything I’ve ever wanted.
I’m prepared and ready to fight Kit’s brilliant mind, sharp tongue, and devious ways. What I never expected was how much I’d be attracted to the man I’ve raised to destroy.
I want to break Kit but instead of getting him to quit, I start imagining impossible things, like him on him on his knees for me. Only for me.
Kiss Me, Kit is a modern retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew as an MM romance. It contains two men at odds with each other, terrible parenting, needlessly complicated coffee orders, cat overlords, inappropriate workplace behavior, and a wet room. Peter and Kit get their happy ending, but they’ll have to wade through biting comments, past trauma, mutually unwanted attraction, and three judgy cats to get there.
Lynn Van Dorn has been publishing MM contemporary romance novels since 2017. She also writes fantasy MM romance as Virginia Kelly. She dreamed of being a writer as a child but took a slight detour on the way and became a pharmacist first. She spends what small amount free time she has knitting, travelling, and playing stupid games on her phone. She is married, has an adult son, and is bossed around by her two cats.

I always loved Moonlighting, too (you should read the oral history; I learned more about the TV industry there than anywhere else!), and just saw Kiss Me, Kate again last week. So, I have this plot on the brain, and an m/m version would be so much better!
Sounds interesting! I love bickering and snark in romance!
Love the “almost” same musical title. It’ll be interesting to see this played out as MM and of course delicious (rubs hands together) because MM is the only genre I’ve been reading for at least 4 years
One of the only dates I’ve ever been on was to a movie version of Taming of the Shrew.
