BLURB:
I’m the first one to tell you doing the right thing has never been high on my list of priorities.
Same goes for respecting the law.
And ethics in general.
It’s more like guidelines anyway.
Until him.
Jude Riley.
I invite myself into his life and refuse to leave.
I know it’s wrong.
I know I shouldn’t.
I do anyway.
It’s never meant to turn into anything serious.
It’s never supposed to matter.
Until it does.
More than anything.
Even if…
I ruined us before we ever even started.
REVIEW:
I have not read the previous or following book prior to reading this one. However, I don’t think it is necessary, as this read fine on its own. Blake is a hacker who has been tasked with finding Jude, the son of the people who took Blake in when he was a teen caught trying to steal their car. It doesn’t take long to find him, but he is immediately intrigued by Jude and things escalate fairly quickly once they “meet.” Blake manipulates things a bit, but he means well. He frequently admits to doing the wrong thing and tries to make it right by keeping their relationship on a friend level.
These two clearly have chemistry, and Jude’s sense of humor and wit quickly win Blake over. As Blake and Jude grow closer, Blake learns more about Jude’s life and circumstances, and they don’t exactly line up with that he has been told thus far. Blake intentions of coming clean with Jude seem to be waylaid at every turn and things quickly escalate beyond control to the point that it is taken out of Blake’s hands.
It’s with the help of Jude’s friend, Steph, that he accepts he needs to fight for Jude, and it takes a while, but it is worth it in the end. They really are very good together and have a great relationship, bit lie aside. I loved that we got to see how things turned out a decade later and that they managed to work things out with their respective family members. I am quite intrigued, however, by Steph, who seems to have a few major issues of his own. Looks like his story is in the next book, so I’ll definitely be checking that one out.
