Description
Fourteen years ago, Storm Tera failed to save the world. Born a prophecy child, foretold to save magic, he went into war untrained, unprepared and lost everything. Ever since, he’s been in self-exile, turning his back on magic as it grows and festers inside of him, unused and unwanted.
Then a young witch makes an offer he can’t refuse: to go back in time and undo the mistakes that led to his failure. They have one chance to rewrite the past, to save everyone he lost, and ultimately…to save magic.
Storm is about to play a game of cat and mouse with time and the Fates. Necromancy is in his blood, but if he can’t find a way to prevent the death of Rowan Copry, he can say goodbye to magic, and life as he knows it, forever.

Standing, he crossed to the armchair, not sure what to do except be honest. He touched the fingertips of his right hand against the arm of the chair and braved the words he would never normally have the courage to say. “I need to know I can trust you.”
“You can.” Rowan nodded, narrowing his eyes as if to ask why Storm doubted him.
Storm knew what it had taken for Rowan to bring him here, to keep his trespass onto Copry land a secret from his father, and the guts required to witness his ascension in front of the Glade coven. Rowan had risked a lot, but Storm had just learned that he’d been trusting people blindly for years and couldn’t risk making the same mistake twice. “I need you to prove it,” he said, hating that this could ruin the tentative trust between them. They’d spent their entire lives believing lies, treating each other like the enemy, never remembering the years of strong friendship they’d formed before his parents died and their worlds collapsed.
“How?”
The fact he bothered to ask was a relief and let Storm know he was prepared to prove his loyalty. “A demon trick. I have to kiss you to see your heart. I guess it’s their fancy way of showing me your intentions, your true self, and revealing your hidden secrets. I need you to be fully aware of what you’re agreeing to.” He hoped Rowan knew he would only ask because Storm already knew Rowan’s heart was pure.
Rowan swallowed, licked his lips and nodded. He seemed as nervous as Storm felt, probably because they’d been enemies for so long, unaware they’d once been the best of friends. Now, they were planning to kiss for the first time, not by choice or even an accident but to fulfil a demon spell.
Storm felt awkward, cupping Rowan’s face in his hand, being the younger of the two and having never kissed anyone before. Ithen didn’t count because that had been part of a spell required to find the truth, and he’d been desperate for answers. This was different.
Dipping his head, he paused to check the look in Rowan’s eyes, to make sure he was okay with this. When Storm found no hesitation, only nerves, he ducked in and pressed their lips in a tentative kiss.
The moment they made contact, his magic surged beneath the surface, responding to whatever magic made Rowan unique. The air pushed in tension, his ears popped and something foreign tickled the back of his mind. Opposing forces pushed at each other, elements twisted, distorting in his mind, becoming something equal parts dark and light.
The surge was irresistible…addictive…and threatened to sweep Storm away, but he focused his mind and did what he’d planned to do. Show me his heart.
Rowan was—kind, considerate, passionate, a voracious reader, a lover of music; he loved the sound of rain, long naps, and had been hiding a kitten in this summer house for months; he dreamed of being free, of his family, of being safe around people, of not being alone—a demon.
