(Interspecies Response) branch of the U.S. Marshals Service is an exciting place to work…if you don’t mind running into the occasional toe-sucking vampire, adorable little multi-eyed alien, or mountain cave-dwelling dragons. Then again, some of their most rewarding work has centered around forming bonds with various shifter populations who thrive along the vast highways and byways of California. They spend a lot of time on the road but being together makes it all worthwhile.
For months now, they’ve been trying to assist a vampire fugitive get back home to his clan…and his throne. King John Townsend has been waiting patiently, knowing every day that goes by brings his people more misery under their new, illegitimate king, Tillis Bradshaw. Bradshaw is an evil vampire whose ruthlessness and greed drive all his decision making. This of course includes an ever-expanding network of nationwide drug trafficking as well as the takeover of synthetic blood factories vampires need to survive. Not to mention the fact that he’s starving his own people.
Eoghan and Ari have known for a while now that someone at the Agency is in bed with Bradshaw and worse than that, there’s a mole in the L.A. office. They’ve had to work in secret with the assistance of their boss, Deputy Chief Arizona Priest. When they get home from what promises to be their last venture outside of California to begin planning the ousting of Bradshaw and his evil minions, neither man is prepared for the disappearance of their boss or the reappearance of an evil nemesis.
Join Ari and Eoghan with all their friends and allies in their final adventure as they face off with an evil neither man could’ve imagined.
REVIEW:
Lions and Dragons, Werewolves and Bears…oh my! And domestic cats to boot!!!
Eoghan Sapphire and his partner/lover Aristotle “Ari” Brown (ISR US Marshals) have been working hard along side their boss, Deputy Chief Arizona Priest, to return Vampire King John Townsend to his rightful place on the throne of his vampire reservation in Flagstaff. But to do so they need to take down the evil Tillis Bradshaw. Bradshaw has taken over King John’s clan and their synthetic blood plant operation. He has now merged the distribution of the synthetic blood delivery with his illegal drug operation. He has done this also with at least several other operations and, if not stopped very soon, the US will be over-run with feral, baby vampires. It is now in the best interest of all the interspecies the IRS oversee to join forces to put Tillis to a stop. But Priest, Eoghan and Ari know there is at least one mole in the LA office and more at higher levels. But will Ari and Eoghan be able to convince and get support from all the various shifter reservations in Northern California to join forces to take down the evil vampire and his minions?
WOW! There is so much happening in this book and I had to just hold on and turn the page as fast as possible! Eoghan and Ari had so many different types of shifters that they had to convince to join not only forces with other shifters but with vampires too. And that was a lot to ask. Shifters and Vampires do not get along. And that’s stating it lightly. Then throw in Priest sending them to try and convince werewolves and that was asking almost too much of Eoghan with his prior encounter. But Eoghan and Ari are professionals and they complete their assignments given no matter how strange or dangerous they are. They signed on to serve and protect.
It has been a treat to watch Eoghan and Ari’s love bloom and grow. These two are so well suited for each other and match each others needs perfectly. Watching the commitment develop and their need to protect the man that each was growing committed to was a treat also. Ari for a first time commitment and Eoghan learning to trust again.
I was thrilled how Author Patricia Logan wove Ari into this series. We had previously met him when Max Prince and he worked together on a particularly tough case in one of the FBI Files books. I had hoped that he had listened to Max’s suggestion that relocating to LA might be a better situation for him because it is more accepting of LGBTQ+ people than his hometown and position with the US Marshals in Lexington, Kentucky. What I hadn’t expected was for him was to be places with the ISR unit of the US Marshals. And that Patty would take him on this wild adventure dealing with a multitude of different paranormal species. But with Patty you should know to expect the unexpected at any moment.
If you haven’t had a chance to explore this series you are in for a fun ride. Great book and a fantastic series.
