BLURB:
When Nathan Greene lost everything from his restaurant and reputation to the man who was supposed to love him, he packed up his life and headed from Texas to New Mexico, where he took on the job of ranch chef. On paper, it sounded pretty easy, but in reality, he ends up on a horse headed to a high camp with a cowboy who really doesn’t seem to like him.
And it’s mutual.
Ames Paulson hates the idea of having to take on the greenhorn chef and make a temporary cowboy out of him. But he soon finds out that Nathan can give as good as he gets, and when Ames’s teenage cousin shows up needing a home, Nathan is incredibly kind to her. Which makes it impossible to dislike the guy.
Both Ames and Nathan have their pasts to contend with, and Ames has to worry about building a life for his cousin as well, but the men finally find common ground and start something wonderful, they think. As long as work, distance, and that past catching up with Nathan don’t put too many roadblocks in their way.
REVIEW:
I am so glad to be back on the ranch that Ryder and Kade have built up so wonderfully.
Nathan Greene has worked his butt off to become the next great thing in being a top chef. Heck, he even competed on the Food Network on the Best Chefs in the Country show. So how in the world did everything go to hell in a handbasket so fast? Well, when you put your trust in the man that you think that you are going to spend the rest of your life with and he screws you completely over…that’s how! And you lose everything that you ever worked for in the process while your supposed fiancé moves on to his next innocent victim! So a major change of scenery is what is needs. So, from the lights and glamour of Austin Texas to the high desert ranch in the toolies of New Mexico, he ventures out to lick his wounds and build himself back up again. But what he hadn’t expected, when he had literally just landed at the ranch, was to be sent out on an emergency mission on the back of a horse to the high pastures for two weeks cooking up in the camp. Heck, he’d never even had a pet let alone rode a horse before. And, after six hours in the saddle, the cook was about to die. But he was strong and would never let on how bad off he was. He had food to get fixed and in those starving cowboy’s bellies. And if that manager Ames doesn’t stop griping about the way he makes his food he’ll show him! But when the man’s niece/cousin suddenly arrives an orphan he feels for them. So what can he do to help?
I loved that this wasn’t an instant attraction and that each man had to earn the respect and admiration of the other. And I loved that Nathan could dish it back out as hard as Ames gave and more so. But it was Sophia that made this all possible. That sweet girl was the catalyst for them to each quit butting heads and get along for her sake. And, when they finally stopped feuding, they realized that they actually got along and started liking each other. Watching that determined young lady and wanting her to succeed gave them the boost to realize they wanted, no needed, to become a family! The icing on the cake was Ames immediately coming to stand next to his man when Nathan’s disgusting and slimy ex, Dan, came slithering in like the snake he truly was. But what Ames did after that brought tears to my eyes. That cowboy really does love his fancy chef and wants him to be happy. But he wasn’t about to lose him. No sir!
I loved that we got more glimpses of Ryder and some interaction with Kase. And that they and the whole family was doing so well. This series has been a special one that I have truly enjoyed. I do recommend reading it in order so you get all the warm, fuzzy feels that you can.
