“I’d get on my knees for you,” I continue in a murmur. “I’d serve you in whatever
ways you need. We’d suit each other perfectly. What other man would say that?”
He gets up and approaches with predatory grace. Nico stops in front of me. I
have to look upwards just to meet his cold, glittering gaze. If only I lifted my hands, then
I could touch him. If only I leaned forward, then I could press a warm kiss to his
stomach. Instead, I behave myself and leave my hands on my lap.
“And you think you deserve a prize for that?” he asks calmly.
“I think I deserve a chance to show you that I’m telling the truth.”
His eyes grow half-lidded. His hand hovers over the side of my face for a
moment—and then he gently cards his fingers through my hair. I sigh at the sensation of
his nails gently scratching my scalp. It’s soothing, sweet, until his fingers catch and he
firmly yanks on my hair, forcing me to look higher up.
