Viktor
The message from my brother lies bold and bright on the screen.
This will be it.
Four words that could mean the end or the beginning. And for many years, as long as my sister was safe, I haven’t much cared which. But as my gaze falls on the woven thread knotted at my wrist and the rough diamond of a man sleeping beside me, I realise everything has changed.
Ranger.
I want more than a hot summer with him. A handful of stolen nights. I don’t deserve him—no one does. But true to the fear I’ve carried since I met him, I can’t give him up.
We survive together, or we die.
And if we live?
I will love his divine heart forever.
REVIEW:
Finally, Ranger and Viktor’s story, I just know that this is going to be AWESOME!
When Ranger and Viktor were mentioned in the previous books of the series, I never thought that they would end up pining for each other. There were only a handful of times that they were in the same area together. So the past two books solidified it that they really were attracted to each other, or at least drawn to each other. You can tell by the way they would continually look for each other, asking their brothers how each other was.
If you have been following this series you would know that in the previous duet the focus were on Nash, Orla and Locke’s story wherein we learned Locke’s back story. It gutted me to learn about what he went through with the Crows. He has been held hostage and tortured by some of the “ugly, undisciplined” members because of what his brother did. So in Locke’s protective way, he gave himself up as a sacrifice so that his twin brother and his family will be left alone. And that gave these bastards the opportunity to torture him and held him hostage.
Lately, Viktor has been missing and not any of his brothers have seen or heard from him, Ranger is getting really worried. Even Alexei doesn’t know where he is, and he knows everything. So when Locke got captured and tortured again, there was another hostage with him, and it turned out to be Viktor. When Locke got the chance to escape, he took Viktor with him. Viktor was drugged during his captivity resulting to him becoming addicted to that substance. When Ranger heard about it and rushed to the Rebel Kings’ compound, Viktor had already left with Jakob/Jake.
When Ranger got a call to meet with Cam and Jakob, he met with them at the Rebel Kings compound. Jakob asked him if he would be willing to stay with Viktor in his family’s place, in order to protect him and his family while he will be going somewhere. Also Jakob asked him to take care of Viktor’s wellbeing (meaning to watch out for the aftereffects of being an addict which Viktor still was at this point). If possible to help Viktor get well.
Viktor and Ranger both know that they had been attracted to each other since way back, they just never had the chance to act on it because when they were together, they were always on a mission to do something for the protection of their families. But now that they are all alone (Viktor’s sister and brother in-law with their children live in a different house nearby) and have all these free time just for themselves, they started to get to know each other better. They’d rather spend this time together than be anywhere else, although Viktor still feels weak and vulnerable because of this addiction that was never his making. But with Ranger being there encouraging him (he doesn’t mince words though), and saying the truth to his face, he slowly begins to heal inside and out. He started training again, sparring with Ranger. He started to eat proper meals again.
Jakob told Viktor to prepare for something because they have one last thing to do in order to finally be rid of their old lives and live a new normal life for their whole family. When the time came, Ranger’s family (although he doesn’t want to admit it sometimes, but they really are his family) came too, and fought with them.
Viktor and Ranger have come a long way, they have gone through a lot of pain in order to arrive at where they are right now. And I am so happy and excited to see where their lives will go, as a couple and as a part of a whole family, two big families in fact.
I am thankful to have read this series, I have had several rounds of crying and being angry at what these amazing characters went through to get their happy endings, but to see them all happy and be with each other as a family has healed some of those heartaches.
Garrett Leigh, you are an amazing writer and I look forward to more bestsellers coming from you, CONGRATULATIONS!
