REVIEW:
Note: This is the second in this series and there are major spoilers for the first book. That being said, it can work as a standalone.
Sebastian works a lot. He has a gig dancing at a club in Seattle and he also works at the local cat rescue/cat cafe. On top of that, he also volunteers teaching dance classes to kids. What he does not have is a relationship. To be honest, he’s a little jealous of Henry, his co-worker at the cat cafe, who is no engaged. But Sebastian has always been the guy people want to hook up with, not keep 🙁 He’s kind of given up ever thinking he’ll be the one somebody stays for.
Luke is a math teacher at the local high school. He’s so far in the closet he can see Narnia. He has purposely kept himself so far off the radar that Sebastian thinks he’s straight. When he overhears some students whispering that they have done some kind of vandalism and mention a certain slur, he’s pretty sure he knows what business they are talking about. He doesn’t want to report anything until he confirms it. When he gets to the cat cafe, he finds Sebastian cleaning up the mess. He apologizes – even though he had nothing to do with it.
Luke finds Sebastian extremely attractive. They end up getting a drink and then more 😉 But Luke can’t risk anyone finding out he is gay, so he asks Sebastian to keep his secret. Sebastian can tell there is more to this story than Luke worrying about his job or whatever. Besides, he can’t be fired for being gay as it’s illegal. But fear has ruled Luke for so long, he doesn’t know any other way to move in the world. His life has been buttoned down since he was 15.
Despite the issues with Luke being closeted, Sebastian and Luke continue to see each other and text periodically. Sebastian fears getting his heart broken when he inevitably ends up being left behind. Again. Luke is terrified of anyone finding out he is gay. So they are at a bit of an impasse. Luke is going to have to figure out how to get past his fears if he really wants anything with Sebastian. Sebastian doesn’t want to be anyone’s secret, but he also won’t push Luke to come out. *sigh* What can they do??
I really enjoyed this second story in this series. We met Sebastian in the previous book and I was hoping he would get his own HEA. He is lonely but he has a heart of gold. He just doesn’t think anyone will want to keep him around. He feels like he’s there for a good time not a long time 🙁 Luke has had his life ruled by fear after a family situation leaves him terrified. He feels misplaced guilt and suffered trauma as a result. It takes sharing his past with Sebastian to put him on the road to getting his life back and making a real life rather than the shadow life he’s lived. He’s made do with out of town hook-ups and apps, but he’s never been happy. With Sebastian, he sees his chance to have a real relationship with a gorgeous and sweet guy. I really liked Luke’s principal 🙂 Looking forward to the next story in this series. Recomended!
