The Amazing Alpha Tau Reunion Project is a collection of lighthearted contemporary m/m romances containing a group of former frat boys navigating adult life, a wedding, and at least a couple of surprises. Or something.
REVIEW:
This is the final book in the Alpha Tau series and is a collection of short stories that are prequels, continuations, and one unpublished story, with Reunion set ten years after Alpha Tau. I will miss the Alpha Tau group. One thing about this book – it really does require you’ve read at least some of the Alpha Tau stories to understand who everyone is. Bro Jobs is a standalone and the others can be, but the relationship between everyone might be missing.
Bro Jobs – Prequel to the Alpha Tau books and the story of how Scout and Trey got together. Told in first person by Scout, it’s silly and sexy and fun. Of all the men of Alpha Tau, grumpy, fashionista Scout is my second favorite. He is so kind-hearted and sweet and no one must ever know this! While they were both members of Alpha Tau, they didn’t really get to know each other until there was a reshuffling of roommates and Scout was about to be roomies with Marty (my favorite!) and that was unacceptable. “I will give you cash money if you put me with anyone else in this house.” So, Scout and Trey became roomies and then, as they start with the Bro Jobs, roomies with benefits. Trey even, sort of accidentally, meets Scout’s parents – the Talbot-Smiths. “I’ve met your daddy before at the Lassiter fundraiser. He was nice as pie. Asked if I was there on a diversity scholarship.” Embarrassment, thy name is Scout.
Scout’s freakout upon realizing he is not as straight as he thought and the very Scout-style freakout later, just made me love him all the more.
Romancing Dalton Beauregard – Ahh, a bit more of Marty and his extreme catch, Dalton Beauregard. Marty is actually ADHD and hadn’t known it, so his actions, his words, and his thoughts are always chaotic. But he is determined to give Dalton a week of epic romancing to show how much he cares. Whether it was a serenade that didn’t go off well. “I wasn’t that good of a singer – Casey said I sounded like a cat with its head stuck in a trash can…” , a lovely picnic interrupted by squirrel and Squirrel or a romance French art film that turns out to be French buttholes, this is the funniest story of the anthology and perhaps the funniest of the series, because it is so Marty.
Make Up Sex – A little more subdued, this one is Briar and Casey. Briar is always fabulous, unapologetically himself always, with satin undies, cute skirts, great make-up and lots of sass. Casey loves all this about Briar. “…a tiny flash of satin and you could see the second Casey’s thoughts dissolved into a blast of static and Casey.exe stopped working.” But Casey consides himself just average looking, a regular joe. And he longs just a bit for a dress up, which Briar happily supplies. This was the sweetest of the bunch.
Pinch Hitter – Nash and Paul’s meet-cute, if you can call it that. Nash is looking for a Daddy, a fact his mom finds out at his high school graduation when she sees his browser history. “Nash, I’m not the one looking up ‘Virgin twink gets spanked by Daddy on PornHub!”. Yep, embarrassing. But now he’s at college, on the baseball team and ready to find a Daddy right now, if not a Daddy forever. He sets up a date at a fancy restaurant with Royston, met on Grindr, who is a no show. In steps another diner, Paul, who is exactly what Nash was looking for. There’s more sex in this one than in the others but it is as humorous as the rest. One thing to note – in Reunion, Nash and Paul are not present.
Reunion – It’s a wedding, and everyone is getting back together to celebrate. This is like the epilogue to the series and it was so lovely to see how everyone is fairing once college is in the rear view mirror.
We get to catch up with what everyone is doing – wedding planner, returning from Japan, adopting children, getting married. I loved seeing it. What I loved more than anything was the proposal flashback after the wedding because, Ring Pop or platinum, it was perfect. It is with such fondness that I say adieu to this group.
