Don’t Pick Up That Coin!

I was just an innocent author minding my own business. Until I found that coin…

The evil thing zapped me into the novel I was writing.

Now I’m dodging ogres, humans, elves, and a certain wizard-in-training with a proclivity for changing people into small harmless animals.

My only goal is to get home again, and the best way to do that is to get this book back on track. I must help the sexy exiled prince find his brother’s killer.

The only problem is that the prince keeps flirting with me rather than the women he’s supposed to be adding to the harem.

Wait! Flirting with me? That can’t be right.

Wait wait! Why did I call him sexy? Am I falling for the prince, too?

I Destroy the Elf Prince’s Harem is a stand-alone novel within the Fortune Favors the Fae collection and follows the adventures of one poor author as he stumbles his way through his own novel and just maybe falls in love with the hero. Along the way he will encounter elves, humans, ogres, a wizard-in-training who’s really bad at magic, jealousy, possessiveness, political intrigue, secrets, and a prince who has eyes for just one man. Unfortunately, that one man is as blind as a bat when it comes to love.

From spicy to sweet, zany romps to epic adventures, there’s something for everyone in the Fortune Favors the Fae series. Discover destiny and true love, and follow the coin on its fickle journey to the next world and a new magical adventure. Each book is a standalone and can be read in any order.

REVIEW:

Adam Lockhart is a writer who is dealing with writer’s block.  His friend convinces him to get out of his house, but when he does, well he ends up finding a magic coin and falling into his own book, Betrayal of the Elf Prince.  Who should find him but the twin of said prince and potential suspect (even though Adam knows he didn’t do it).  The elf introduces himself as Nylian (not his name) and Adam gives his real name.  Why???  He does not know.  Nylian rescues Adam and decides to take him on his journey.

They are tracked by mercenary Adeline and her younger brother Jasper.  She is looking for payment to help Nylian and Adam after a narrow escape.  Adam is trying very very hard to get Nylian together with Adeline.  In his story, Nylian (or Prince Xeran if we’re being completely truthful), has a harem and Adam knows that Adeline is perfect for this role.  Nylian has less than zero interest in Adeline.  Or in any woman as it turns out.  The only one he has interest in is Adam (or as he appears to be the doppelganger for Prince Victor Montcroix – another character in the book).  It is really quite complicated.

When Adam tells Nylian he knows he didn’t kill his brother and he wants to help him clear his name, Prince Xeran is skeptical.  But he could use the help and he really does like Adam.  He doesn’t know if he believes his story about how he came to land in this world, but he’s going with it for the time being.  But there are a lot of obstacles in their way, not the least of which is trying to keep people fooled that Adam is the real Prince Victor.

No more plot spoilers from me.  It’s too delicious and is better read cold I think.

Well this was a whole lotta fun!  Despite some murders and attempted murders and some ineffective magic, this story of Nylian and Adam is a highly entertaining ride.  I don’t think I’ve ever read a story with just this setup of the writer ending up in their own book.  But of course the characters do not behave in the way that the writer intended.  In fact, the plot has gone completely off the rails and the writer is left trying to get them back on course.  The characters in fact have no intention of following the desires of the writer.  LOL!  In fact the characters insist on pursuing the writer romantically and ignoring every single attempt of the writer to get things redirected to the original plot lines.  This makes for some hilarious situations.  Adam is completely clueless about Nylian’s feelings.  He’s never been attracted to a guy before, so why would it start with his one main character?  But it does.  It takes a while for Adam to figure out that he’s attracted to Nylian.  There are some really funny moments with these two.  The snarky banter is a good time.  Adeline is a hoot also.  I really could not wait to see how this would play out.  If there’s one complaint, it’s that the coin played barely a role in this one.  No matter.  The story is so good and surprising with all the twists and turns I didn’t actually miss it that much.  This author is so talented – she can write in any genre and this was another example of her very creative approach to storytelling. Highly recommended!
