Silas
The fae prince caught my eye the moment I saw him, and no, it didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he was being abducted. It’s not even that Callisto adores the large mount who wants to maim him. Or that every time he smiles, flowers bloom around him. No, there’s something else that draws me to him, though when the kingdom begins to fall apart around us, I realize I’m not the only one who wants him.
But the others want him dead.
With memories of my past hanging over me, I’m trapped between who I want to be and who I need to be to protect Callisto.
Callisto
While being officially crowned prince should be my main concern, something isn’t quite right with the king—unless it’s normal to have an evil mist hanging around you. Then again, who am I to judge when I can poison someone with just a kiss?
When an attack on the royal court leaves me wounded, I have no one to turn to but Silas, but he wants to keep me at a distance… like he’s afraid of me finding out the secrets he holds.
Thankfully, with Dandelion (my sweet mount—don’t listen to Silas), a strange and suspicious coin, and Silas’s friend who can speak to animals (who don’t seem interested in speaking to him) at our side, we’re going to tip this fight in our favor and prove that heroes (and love) come in all forms.
Prince of Poison is a part of the multi-author series, Fortune Favors the Fae. From spicy to sweet, zany romps to epic adventures, there’s something for everyone in this mystical series. Discover destiny and true love and follow the coin on its fickle journey to the next world and a new magical adventure.
REVIEW:
Callisto and Silas are mixed up in a crazy situation. There is an extremely bizarre “meet strange” I guess you’d call it 😉 what with Callisto being almost kidnapped and Silas just “standing around” watching it happen. But of course absolutely nothing is as it seems in this book.
Callisto is fae. Silas is human. But is that really it? Callisto takes a shine to Silas and he pays him to “help him” acquire a beastie that he’s enamored with at a sort of auction that is extremely strange. This animal is shackled and muzzled and has been beaten, etc. Silas is convinces it will kill Callisto, but Callisto insists he have it. And he christens the “murder mount” Dandelion. 😀 That is only the first of the bizarre creatures in this story.
Then there is a king who has no heir and so Callisto – as the sone of his brother – is supposed to be designated heir. But this doesn’t really seem to be going well. The king doesn’t seem to like Callisto at all. Then there is a bizarre attack during the royal ball to introduce the prince that causes Callisto to flee. Silas comes back looking for Callisto but Callisto’s been injured and then they are off.
There are so many twists and turns. Nothing is as it seems. Nobody is who they seem to be. Dark magic and necromancers abound. Everyone seems to be after Callisto. But he bizarrely named Dandelion and Silas and some other magical creatures are determined to help Callisto figure out what is happening and save him.
Well I’m not even sure how I can describe this – except to say that this is an extremely Alice Winters wild ride! Oh my god. SOOOO many laugh out loud moment! Callisto is a hoot! Silas is his grumpy guardian? Lover? Both? Dandelion is a quite the surprise. I honestly couldn’t predict a thing in this story. So many surprises! And secrets that are slowly unraveled. And the coin – how does that play into this 😉 You’re going to have to read it to find out. If you’re a fan of Alice Winter’s writing, you will love this.
I’m soooo happy I got my wish with the audio version of this book 🙂 I spent the whole day laughing at the antics of these characters. There are heavy moments as well, but honestly the cast of characters here are delightfully bizarre and hilarious. Dandelion REALLY needs his own book! Callisto and Silas are opposites in so many ways, but they really work once they admit their attraction. It’s quite a slow burn because of various circumstances, but once they admit and act on their feelings, well it’s obvious they are going to be together.
Michael Ferraiuolo and Alice Winters are truly a marriage made in heaven. Michael is absolutely brilliant at bringer all of her OTT and unique characters to life. The accents, the “craziness” the tenderness are just pitch perfect in these audios. I know whenever I need a pick me up, I can listen to one of their collaborations and I will immediately be in a better mood. Highly recommended!
