Pulling over a hookup wasn’t covered in training.
For Jake Robinson, a hookup app is great for one thing: hookups. No strings, no names, no expectations. Until his last traffic stop as a patrol officer turns into a second meeting with his summer hookup. Now he has a name to go with the gorgeous man he hasn’t stopped thinking about. But Esme has no plans of making Nashville home and Jake isn’t interested in casual flings.
Esme St. Claire’s life went sideways on the first day of hockey training camp. Grainy photos from his night in a dark Tennessee bar force him to retire as captain of the Bulldogs. Trying to find a new path, Esme ends up face to face with none other than his summer hookup, Officer Jake Robinson.
And their chance meetings don’t end after the speeding ticket.
Esme’s job with Nashville’s newest minor league hockey team, the Parliament, comes with daily chaos and an office next to the new head of security, Jake. Thanks to a new group of friends, Esme is ready to go after what he wants. But first, he needs to figure out what a little is and how to be the Daddy Jake is looking for.
Sucker Punched is the second book in the Nashville Parliament series and is best enjoyed in order. Please see the forward for information on crossovers and cameos from past main characters.
REVIEW:
This is the story of a closeted Ice Hockey player and an out police officer, who also happens to be a Little. If you like new Daddies trying to find there way and cute Littles, then I think you will like this book.
One of the things that I enjoy with Carly’s books (as well as with some other authors) is when each story, whilst focusing on one new couple, lets you see the continuation of characters lives that you have previously met as well . I recognise this does mean in some cases that you need to have read every book ever written by an author; in others I think they are written in a way that if you haven’t read the other books, I don’t think you will even notice.
Sucker Punched is a good example of this. With some authors as this is the second book of the Nashville Parliament series you wouldn’t be surprised to see characters from book #1 and possibly characters from the Nashville Grizzlies is the Ice Hockey series the Nashville Parliament series is a spinoff from. However, in this book Jakes best friends are Troy, Logan and Jake from Curiosity (Undisclosed #2) and Larson from Secrets (Undisclosed #2 I love Larson). Of course, Seth (Johnson Family Rules #3) also pops up in here.
Another thing that Carly does well is showing that there is no set way for relationships to be. Everyone does them differently. Yes Jake is a little who likes to play, has a security blanket and a binkie, but he isn’t a brat . He isn’t Little all the time and he doesn’t need a Daddy to tell him to eat properly or to keep healthy. He is perfectly capable of looking after himself if he has to (most of the time). Of course, has to look after himself and wanting to are 2 different things.
As a rule, I do not read sports books as I don’t know anything about or have any interest in almost all sports. However, there is always an exception to the rules and Carly Marie is mine. Unlike some of her books this one doesn’t have much hockey stuff in it so if you don’t like sports books (even ones explained well) this book will still be for you.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
