Accepting my career in the Army is over after losing my leg is hard.
But the obnoxious, good looking, glass-half-full surfer in my physical therapy sessions is worse.
And god help him if he doesn’t stop trying to give me advice.
Living in a home with three of my closest veteran buddies is a challenge as we all have our crosses to bear and wounds to heal from, but mine only seem to be getting deeper with every step forward I take. I already have to adjust to a new life as a civilian. I don’t need a sexuality crisis to go with it.
But Heath is making me question everything I thought I knew about myself. And while that should terrify me, somehow, he’s helping me feel braver than I ever have before.
Creek is the first book of the Honorably Discharged series, featuring a grumpy veteran with a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas, a sunshine surfer who can bring out the best in almost everyone, a bisexual awakening, found family, hurt/comfort, and a steamy happily ever after.
REVIEW:
I was really excited to get to read this book as I really enjoy both these authors. I was not disappointed. I have both read and listened to this book before writing this review and I can honestly say I cannot tell which author wrote which bit which is kind of cool.
John Solo’s narration of the book worked perfectly, and I enjoyed listening to it as much as reading it.
Creek is the start of the new Honorably Discharged series co-authored by E.M. Lindsey & Nora Phoenix. The series follows 4 soldiers, Creek, Bean, Tameron and Nash who have all been discharged after an incident on base leaves them all with injuries (mental & physical) .
The four soldiers are all living together in the house
Nash inherited from his grandparents, and we are introduced to all of them and their scars from the incident in this book.
This, the first book in the series follows Sergeant Creek as he learns how to deal with both the loss of his leg and the loss of his identity as an active soldier.
It is during Creek’s rehab that he meets Heath a competitive surfer and PE teacher who has the same type of injury due to a drunk driver hitting him whilst he was on his motorcycle. Unlike Creek though Heath is a generally more positive person than Creek . A ray of sunshine against Creek’s grumpiness, this along with Heath’s progress with his prosthetic annoys the very competitive Creek.
Also, Creek straight isn’t he? Surely if he was gay or bi he would have known by now, wouldn’t he?? Heath is challenging everything Creek knows about himself at a time when he has so many challenges to face. Creek needs his friends more than ever now to be able to move on with his life.
As well as meeting the four soldiers we are also introduced to Creeks’ brother Forest , Kent the MC’s physio, and his ex Zayda who runs the local gay bar. In my head there are so many potential stories in this universe I cannot wait to see where Nora Phoenix and E.M. Lindsey go with it!!
