BLURB:
Trevanion Usher’s mother had always told him that beauty faded but stupid was forever, so he aimed high and set out to be beautiful for as long as he could and only let people think he was stupid.
Since her passing, he’s managed to navigate the perils of Perry City, a dangerous metropolis run by the mob and oozing with corruption. His sharp wits, good looks, and absolute lack of shame have served him well, and he’s almost ready to escape and start over somewhere with a tropical climate. When his landlord calls in a favor, Trev is suspicious but jumps at the chance to score big in exchange for one night of work.
Naturally, that’s when everything goes wrong.
Jupiter Prospero is a member of the city’s ruling mob family and he’s interested in sharing much more than Trev’s company for the evening. He’s gorgeous, powerful, and has secrets to reveal—like Trev’s relation to a powerful gangster in the city of Strassen Springs.
Trev finds himself trapped as an unwilling pawn in a deadly game between two long feuding criminal families and he’ll have to use all of his skills to survive, but does he stand a chance against Jupiter’s devastating charms?
Or will he succumb to even darker forces before he has a chance to cash out?
This book takes place in the same world as the author’s Cold Hard Cash series.
REVIEW:
Trev is a young man determined to get himself everything life has to offer. He promised his mom he would do his best. It’s hasn’t been easy but he’s on his way up and out…until his past catches up with him.
Jupiter has been going along like everything is fine, but he knows it isn’t. When he finally meets Trev, sparks fly and Jupiter might finally have found a reason to change his life.
There is a lot to like about this story. The characters are very compelling and while I wouldn’t say they were immediately likable, they were very interesting. Once I got involved in the story, it didn’t let me go until it was finished!
I loved Trev’s confindence, even if it wasn’t alway real. He was really big on the fake till you make it when the chips are down.
The story totally didn’t go where I thought is was going and that turned out to be the best thing of all! I love it when I guess wrong and that doesn’t happen very often! It’s a crazy ride from start to finish. There’s shootouts and stabbings and found family and it keeps you guessing right until the end.
I haven’t read the books in the Cold Hard Cash series but I did read one by this author that was another offshoot of it and now I’m thinking I need to get the rest. All the characters are interesting and very well fleshed out, even the ones we rarely see.
Trev and Jupiter are not the sweet and tender lovers for the most part so when the author does give them so vulnerability, it hits all the harder. And I loved that once they committed to the situation and each other, there was no going back.
The author is great at getting the details just right. I think my favorite character besides the main guys is Juicy. The guy is crazy but that’s okay, it just made him more interesting.
If slightly insane mafia guys and a sexy as hell boy who just might need a daddy but is really good at kicking as for himself are your thing, then this book is right up your alley! It made me laugh, it made me angry and it made me tear up a time or two as well. I keep finding more and more stories by this author that I love and that makes me very happy.
