Cricket thought he’d stolen the ultimate prize: a rare coin rumored to possess magical powers. But when an alluring sorcerer upends his world in a moonlit alley, Cricket discovers the coin is more powerful than he’d ever imagined.
And he’ll risk his life to keep it.
The Sorcerer
Julian needs that stupid coin, and seeing as it’s fallen into the hands of a mortal man—a beguiling, smooth-talking thief, really—it should be easy enough to claim. So why does he continue to fail in his every attempt?
Unstoppable Ancient Magic
For someone who thrives in the shadows, Cricket discovers there’s no hiding from the magic that binds him to the coin, or the infuriatingly seductive Fae sorcerer intent on reclaiming it. Soon, both men find themselves battling volatile magic and a dangerous attraction while desperately holding on to what neither can afford to lose: their hearts.

REVIEW:
I really loved this story. Both main characters were so distinctive – their voices were truly their own. Cricket with his teasing and his quest/adventure from the capital city back to his home and his slowly building change of heart towards his uninvited stalker is so perfect. He really is a delight. Julian is determined to have his revenge and is driven by what he is certain will be the instrument that will allow him to fulfil his desire to wipe out the guild who destroyed him: the magic coin. But the coin has a mind of its own 🙂 Julian can always find Cricket because he can “hear” the coin. Cricket is determined to not give Julian the coin and their journey back to Irondale becomes one where each of them begin to view the other in a different light. Cricket wants to learn more magic. Julian wants the coin. Can they drag this out long enough to make it to the end of the road?
Turns out that as they get closer to their destination, Cricket is more determined than ever to not let Julian seek his revenge and become a monster. He wants to help Julian. But Julian is determined to not involved Cricket in his mess and seeks to fulfil his own destiny. But it’s of course not to bet hat easy. And thankfully the coin doesn’t like that idea either 🙂 Cricket and Julian are fated to work together and Julian finally learns what it’s like to have someone on his side.
Truly a wonderful read! If you’ve read this author’s Luminia stories, this world will be familiar, but it’s not required. I just loved Cricket so much! He was so funny and prickly and adorable – and of course a bit damaged. Julian is damaged on the inside and the outside. He’s been through literal hell and as Cricket begins to learn more of what happened to him, he’s determined to help him by not letting do whatever it is he thinks he need to on his own. They become “friends” but finally give in to their desires, despite Julian’s fears that he’s not worthy. Their love grows over the course of the story and they go from reluctant enemies to friends to lovers in a way that makes them stronger. There are plenty of missteps, but in the end, they work things out in the most perfect of ways and without causing more damage to their own psyches! If you love fantasy and romance and magic, you’ll really like this story! Highly recommended.
