He wishes he didn’t keep running into the sexy lawyer.
Ian knows Cole is attracted to him, but the younger man keeps him at arm’s length. It only makes Ian more determined to be with Cole and learn all his secrets. But while Ian has built a successful law practice, he hasn’t done too well with relationships.
When a sudden and devastating tragedy occurs, it shatters Cole’s world and throws Cole and Ian together in unexpected ways. In an instant, everything between them changes forever.
REVIEW:
Ian and Cole are about as different as two people can be.
Ian is a lawyer with his own firm and a well to do family. He is successful professionally, financially and emotionally mature. He is also Brendan, one of Cole’s housemates, boss
Cole is young, works a bartender and the only family he has is the one he created and fought for, his four roommates. To him his little found family is the most important thing in the world, and if they don’t always have spare money to through around it doesn’t matter because they have each other. When tragedy strikes are they strong enough to help each other through their pain. Cole is fortunate he has Ian by his side, but will Cole’s found family survive?
When I first read this book back in 2016 my life long best friend had been diagnosed with terminal cancer 14 months before hand and we didn’t know how much longer she had. The start of this book destroyed me then and it did again this time. In fact, my husband has just came to give me a hug because I am crying whilst writing this. Although I should point out this book does not feature a terminal illness.
I know everybody grieves in different ways but the scene where they are driving to the funeral and the world is just carrying on as normal when their world is falling apart really resonated with me. It’s exactly how I felt and all you want to do is shout “Stop carrying on like normal, nothing is normal.” The writing in the very emotional moments felt so real, so experienced and they hurt.
This book is not all sad and actually is quite steamy. There is a lot of sex in the latter two thirds of the book. With Ian’s support we also get to see Cole grow and mature. He starts to feel more confident in himself and to believe in himself.
At the end of the day the overriding themes for me were grief, found family and everyone deserves a happy ever after just sometimes life gets cut short.
